What age should a child stop using a dummy?

I recently saw a child aged 2 with a dummy!!!

Worst thing I ever did was giving my babies a dummy. Thankfully mine were off it and no judgement on anyone using one but I noticed my daughters teeth were starting to push forward. 6 months of no dummy and they were back in place

If your toddler gets some comfort using a dummy then continue until they start school. Mine never took to dummies.

My daughter who will be 2 in June has a dummy. I'm trying to limit when she has it, hoping only at bedtime for now but its so hard! It like she's addicted to the thing! She's started (this week) biting them and actually puncturing the dummy with her teeth so the dummy needs to go! ASAP! Wish me luck 🤣

I did used to babysit for someone who's daughter still had a dummy at 10 which I always thought was odd.

I have four kids and have never given any of them a dummy, my personal opinion is that they do not need them and they are also bad for the development of their teeth.

Leannexxx It's good to know that your children don't have any issues with their teeth and speech, it's been a while since my kids were born and I didn't realise there were orthodontic dummies like MrsCraig mentions in her comment, that'll no doubt make a difference.

MrsCraig I'm never mentioned anything to do with your son and I wish him well, I was just trying to highlight that you said, you could get orthodontic dummies, something that I wasn't aware of.

I'm sorry if you took my comment in he wrong manner. Take Care.

pato I didn't take your comment in the wrong way at all! I know you never mentioned my son. I was responding to Leannes comment about people saying dummies can cause speech problems. I was pointing out that my son never had a dummy and has speech problems. I was trying to make the point that I wouldn't listen to everything people say about these sorts of things!

Sorry if my message didn't come across properly, I didn't mean to upset you with my comment, I should have explained better.

MrsCraig I might have taken your comment the wrong way, and only replied because I thought that I had upset you.

MrsCraig You don't really have anything to apologise for, as long as no one is upset, we're all good, Take Care.

My son never took a dummy. The nurses in the hospital tried to give him one. As soon as he realised there was no milk coming out of it he spat it out and wouldn't take it again.

You can get dummies that are orthodontic so that they don't damage their teeth.

My son loved his dummy when he was little, he had great speech and no issues with his teeth. We made him give it up in the daytime by two and nighttime by 3. My daughter on the other hand never liked them and simply refused, however at the age of 2/3 now she can be very difficult to understand.

I don’t think there is a right or wrong age to stop, each child is different.

My son who is now 5 had one, I started limiting it to just at nights and then completely off by 2 x

I’m a big believer in dummies as you can ‘wean’ the child off them - kids who suck their thumb however is much harder to stop. It’s also a bit difficult to pass judgement as it could be a comfort to a child who is on the spectrum.

Such a personal thing but I don’t like to young children walking around with dummies in their mouths. If they still have them when they can walk keep them to the bedroom.
