Boots the Latest Store to Get Rid of Plastic Bags
In the News
By 2020 Boots are going to have fully introduced brown paper bags in place of plastic. They will be chargeable and money raised in this way will go to charity. What do you all think?
I think it's a great idea. We all should have learned to take our own bags with us by now.
The brown bags are the way to go. Boots need to stop selling so many products in plastic bottles now. I appreciate its their suppliers who bottle the goods but I’m sure these big international companies would listen to Boots rather than consumers.
i work for Boots - we are annoyed by this because Boots give out very good quality bags that are reusable, and necessary when purchasing lots of heavy bottles of bubble bath / shower gel / shampoo.. I think they will find it doesn’t work! We already give all of the 5p from each bag to charity - Macmillan is Boots’ number 1 charity who gets the bag sales... really they need to be reducing things like our deliveries coming in big plastic bags and the amount of posters / packaging they use for our sales and deliveries
TractorGirl327 we have quite a few older customers who do reuse the bags, I reuse them for picking up dog mess from my garden! I just think personally, from my experience with Boots (and I’m sure other companies are the same!) they change things like plastic bags to paper bags so it is obvious to the general public and makes them look like they are an eco-friendly company, when in reality, when you work behind the scenes, they waste SO much paper and plastic that doesn’t get recycled, but it’s all the stuff you don’t see unless you are employed by them..
It makes sense, but it would be better if everyone brought their own bags when they go shopping
i would like too see cloth or paper bags in every shop, i dont know why the groverment make it law
Much is said about plastic carrier bags all the time, but what about these plastic clothing bags that charities keep putting through peoples doors all the time, they inevitably end up in the bins without so much as being used once.
it is a good move, and the next step should be that they stop selling items in the packaging they currently do, as they are just as bad, if not worse
