What Does Everyone Eat on Xmas Eve? Just the Normal or Something Special?
Ask a Question
We used to go out Xmas eve for a meal, last year we got afternoon tea box and doing the same again this year
Not anything special to be honest, but that is a nice run up to Christmas. Covid allowing of course!
We usually have a junk food tea on Christmas Eve so that the people cooking the dinner the following day don't have to cook. It's fun, it's like being a kid again
We usually order Chinese food after doing all the cooking and preparation for Christmas day.
There is and always has been a family tradition ( no one knows how it started , we are all old folk ) that on xmas eve the only thing we eat is pork pie , mustard and pickles ..
Just the nibbles really . Cheeses , sausage rolls , mince pies , snacks etc washed down with something .
TBH started already - just to make sure nothing has gone off !
We would normally order a Chinese but changing it this year as it will be a nightmare trying to get an order. So this year some party food i think
Last few years we have had a chip shop or another takeaway with my parents so we can get on with prep and not worry about cooking a meal afternoon tea box sounds amazing
My son has asked for a mac Donald usually the rule anything that doesn't require oven or hob
Usually have some nice cheese and biscuits with either a nice bottle of wine or port plus mince pies.
I tend to make more of an effort to prep something different on Christmas Eve. I love the Christmas Turkey but that stays a constant so I try to make an 'all evening' buffet to pick at. Last year I made a Monkfish Ceviche with chilli and lime served in sweet potato nests, a raised chicken and ham pie that was delish but ugly! Add to that cheeses and nibbles and everyone is happy. Haven't decided what I'm doing this year.
My family always has party food bits like sausage rolls, cocktail sausages, prawn toast, spring rolls, etc. Plus something Christmassy as a dessert such as mince pies or Christmas cake.
We will be having a party food dinner as its what my husband requested. So there will be a mix of mini pizzas, spring rolls, samosas, pakoras, potato skins, chicken satay, prawn toast and other items too.
Every Christmas I cook something special. In my country we have mince meat with rice and onions rolled in pickled cabage leaf. Are delicious
