Insects in Tea Bags

Other

Who knew it? Commercial tea leaves contain traces of anthropological DNA. Environmental DNA, or eDNA, is a method which can be used to identify traces of hundreds of different species, without ever seeing the creatures themselves. Studies of old dry tea bags reveals that they are often full of dead insects...er up to 1,000!. I often infuse home grown herbs in boiling water which kills off most things anyway. I prefer coffee to tea anyway lol.

Tea anyone? Image

White tea is young tea that is healthier than green tea , without the mites hopefully

telmel Ripping up baby plants lol. Yes as allotmenteer I should have known that. I once tried growing a couple of Camellia Sinesisis plants but they never ever made it to the the white hairy stage. I did manage tobacco though which ironically makes a great spray for deterring unwanted insects.

I saw this earlier - when I was having a cup of tea!! It made me think and I couldn't finish the cup... so I moved on to a bacardi & coke - I hope there are no bugs in that!

I also thought how clever that you can get 1,000 bugs in such a small bag....

Next weeks price increase justified by rebranding as protein tea, but will they put vegans off. When I put old used Tea on the garden I do notice lots of maggot’s appear, always assumed the eggs had been laid post my cuppa.

I'm not really surprised by this to be honest. There will be insects on the tea leaves when they are picked. Plus eating insects now is supposed to be trendy. It hasn't put me off drinking tea.

I love a good cuppa and if I found a insect in my tea bag I would most likely run for the hills, and then later on sue them! 😂
