Improved Deal Duplicate Detection
Latest Deals
Hi all
Just a quick message to say we've put an update live that should hopefully improve our automated detection of duplicate Amazon deals. It should now better detect if variations of a product are being shared (e.g. different shoe size, flavour, etc) and give you a heads up if it looks like the deal you're sharing is already on Latest Deals.
Our LD Hunters are also benefiting from this change so hopefully there will be less duplicate deals there!
Thank you all for your feedback about duplicate deals appearing on LD. Whilst this won't 100% fix the problem, I'm hoping it significantly improves the situation
Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of LD!
intherealworld Hey Thank you for reporting, it's very helpful indeed!
This update is specifically to improve the situation with Amazon deals (I believe the ones you reported were mostly from other retailers).
We will keep trying to improve our processes to ensure we continue to find and share deals as quickly as possible but hopefully reducing the odds of two different team members sharing the same thing at similar times!
Kelsey www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/winthome-light-soft-blanket-hoodie-amazon-2625 . Like this one ? 6 days apart . Which is ,of course , a dupe of www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/winthome-oversized-fleece-blanket-hoodie-amazon . Identical item ,different colour . Reported 45 minutes ago appears your moderator does not agree ?
intherealworld Some moderators keep deals expired even though deals are available and any reports have no effect whatsoever. You can prove that deal is available but it's a waste of time as it's always we are right and you are wrong attitude.
I have seen quite a few vouchers listed recently but they expired months ago, when I submit a voucher you won't except them but except out of date ones
This only works for the same colour, different colour from the same link still can be posted as separate deals as I checked.
Different size of the same colour also can be posted as separate deal as long as the price is slightly different.
Just my thoughts but
Whoops, it looks like this has already been shared?
What would stop someone who is evidently reposting same or similar products from just clicking on it's a new deal and posting it anyway?
It's great that you are finally trying to improve the issue but some reported this on How would you make Latestdeals better over a year ago.
If we are talking about duplicates then please do allow price drops of more than 5%. There is no point to repost same deals multiple times if price dropped by more than 5% within a day or a week. I would remove price drop limit completely on new deals.
Thanks Kelsey plz do same with non Amazon deals too one thing I don’t understand no one ever mention in duplicate deals if everyone do these things then deal hunters will check twice before posting otherwise they keep doing another thing plz just think then decide when your remove duplicate deals plz remove those likes everyone gave to that deal then they definitely stop posting duplicate I noticed especially Friday evening because less staff due to weekend no one check many thanks for all help
M1321 Some duplicates are accidental , however 99+ % are from LD Hunters who receive the same feed from LD affiliates . Why the system doesn't flag this to LD Hunters is a mystery (or deliberate ?) .
My question ? How many members care about what is on Latest Deals as long as they get their Amazon vouchers ?
Yes , LD Hunters post multiple duplicates from their feeds , members (understandably ) post non deals from Amazon or Supermarkets etc just for the points .
I fear it will never change - but it could be so much better if the founders tried a different path than to effectively bribe members with vouchers to post non deals .
Rant over - Tom knows my suggestions to make the site a deals site , I presume he has considered them and concluded they would not be profitable . Fair enough .
Anything that makes the app better gets a from me. Let’s see how this improvement works out
To those who follow the site rather than just use it as an Amazon voucher earning site (sadly the majority of members ) the Amazon "feed" to LD Hunters has been obvious for years .
Obvious to all - leading to 2 or 3 LD Hunters posting what is on their " feed " at more or less the same time leading to many duplicates which Latest Deals were unwilling to address . Perhaps not allowed to by Amazon ?
I understand that the majority of members don't complain or point out the obvious , they rely on an Amazon voucher a month or so and don't want to rock the boat .
Recently (last 3 or 4 months ) it is obvious what is happening . Amazon not allowing Latest Deals to show price history , which was a great help to members .
Amazon don't need to convert me , I'm a Prime member and buy all sorts of stuff off them (strangely not off a Latest Deals "non deal" ) .
The reason all these duplicates occur is because Latest Deals have sold their soul to Amazon . Tom tell me if I'm wrong . Instead of sending feeds to LD Hunters we now have " LDHunter Pancakealien (ie Amazon) directly posting multiple sizes , colours , scents etc of the same item (obviously in breach of Latest Deals rules ).
Most members are grateful to post "non deals" and garner Amazon vouchers for little effort and that is fine ish . But shouldn't Latest Deals actually do what it says on the tin ?
I realise that Latest Deals has to make money , but perhaps it should consider taking on board the suggestions I have made in the last month or so ? I would love Latest Deals to become the "go to" deals site -not going to happen while it is tied to Amazon "Tat Clearance " .
Hope it can work better for comps too as pipped to the post can be really annoying. It should be easier than variations of deals.
