People Aren't All Bad ...
Other
A few of us have really enjoyed the thread from RegularComper90 about people not thanking you. There was one lovely story from Grannyclock so I thought it would be nice to have some positive stories because there are also a lot of unsung heroes out there who by just simple actions make such a difference.
I will start it off - Every morning around 6.00 am on my way to work I pass an elderly man I would guess is in his 80's. He has a black sack and he walks along a stretch of road through a housing estate picking up litter rain or shine. I think he is wonderful!
That is a very nice thing of him to do. And rude people are actually very few and far between (although it is a little annoying when you do come across one).
Around 98% of the population are decent people. x
Oh dear RG I would love to live where you do because I would lessen those figures to 50/50 or even less odds for decent people. I read nothing but murder, rape, thievery, assault, misogyny, fraud, con tricks, cowboy builders, muggers, drug addicts, alcoholics, negligent parents of kids in care and I truly believe they account for far more than 2%. Thank goodness for the decent people who live their lives quietly and with morality and honour, I truly wish they were the majority.
lynnibis the problem is the decent people don't get spoken about, I hear of so many crimes in my city. I still think good people are the majority, it's just our average lives don't make for an interesting read
Tasha042 I totally agree - we don't hear about the good ones until shows like 'Pride of Britain' come along and I spend the evening in tears at how wonderful some people are. But for every drug dealer there is probably an amazing volunteer who tries to help an addict at a drop in centre, the scout and guide leaders, the volunteers at youth centres, people who run sports clubs - all those who try to keep kids off the streets and in a safe environment.
I started doing that in our street Jamala, it must be something to do with getting old. My kitchen looks onto street and I can't stand looking out on all the cans and fast food packaging left by passers by. I feel a bit cross that no one else bothers as I am probably the oldest. If everyone kept the patch outside their home clean and tidy, people like that poor old man wouldn't have to do it, he is probably hoping for a bit of human contact and chat.
I would love to write something positive but I can't say I come across any unsung heroes just the odd smile or chat with a nice person in the supermarket queue.
Pat on the back for you for making the effort. I'm afraid littering makes my blood boil, I get very angry when I have to pick up complete takeaways just thrown out the car window when they have finished - but I'm trying to be positive here and think of all the good things people do!!
Jamala lol, I am going to bed soon and I will try very hard to think of something good to write tomorrow. Ah, I do remember 30 years ago when my ex left me and the kids for a 21 year old and money was very tight. A kind anonymous person put £10 through my letterbox and that was a fair bit back then!
lynnibis Now that is a wonderful story (well obviously apart from your ex leaving you). Funnily enough I was just updating facebook - my lovely little brother (not so little or young!!) did a charity cycle ride today, one he does every year in aid of a local hospice. He always gets sponsors and whatever he is sponsored he doubles it. Got to love him
