Do You Remember Tupperware Parties ?
Ask a Question
I have just read an article about Tupperware and how the household name could soon be history, unless they receive investment.
It brought back memories of Tupperwear parties, when I was a kid my Mum used to always be going to these & I remember her feeling obliged to buy something, usually the cheapest item as we didn't have much £. I think it was a nice break from us kids
Oh yes Tupperware parties were a thing in the 1970s. It was expensive but had a lifetime guarantee so worth spending that extra.
beccatavender you can contact them, send a photo of the main body you have and request the lid.
I wonder how re-investment would help the brand. It's expensive to sell and can't compete with cheaper more generic plastic storage containers today so how can re-investing help the business. I remember my mother buying a tupperware container and I always called it the £13 container. Yes it was really just the entrance fee to the party more than anything but even today you could probably get a similar container for about £4 from a shop. I suspect anyone who invests in tupperware will see their investment do rather badly. The brand name has some worth though. I'm sure it would be capable of providing some licensing income.
I love the 1970s tupperware I got loads off the Internet and use it all the time. I prefer it to the cheap stuff of today
I hadn't been to a Tupperware party.
I been to a Pampered Chef party, multiple Partylite parties and even hosted a Partylite party
The trouble with Tupperware is they were built to last, even those from 40 years ago usually seal well and are still fully functional, but maybe not the most attractive. There are also so many other companies that supply storage containers now and we are living in a world of reducing plastic.
ah i think i am too young for this but if you have old Tupperware its worth alot! i sold two tubs on ebay combined got £17
My mum used to go to the partys as well and got talked into doing them herself .As kids we used to be kicked out for the evenings but had the job of setting everything out with her first .God was there some wonderful and wired things for her to sell and she always got something free for putting the partys on .Cant remember why she stopped doing them .Think it was just a faze and just stopped in its tracks .She is 89 now and still has loads of the stuff. If the do go bust will that mean all the stuff will be worth loads of money .I hope so .Also if it does and you are interested, give me a text .
MelissaLee1 That brought back memories, I only ever went to one Anne Summers party, it was at a neighbour, and I didn't know them that well. They asked me on the night of the party, so no excuses. They had also invited colleagues from work, so there weren't many of us. It was so awkward, the person selling must have been new, as there wasn't any funny banter and there definitely wasn't enough alcohol. I remember them passing a large toy around and people couldn't pass it to the next person quickly enough
beccatavender Yes I went to one with my then sister in law who was a young catholic unversed in the art of adventure .She was as red and giggly as a schoolgirl lol.
I went to Tupperware parties in their hayday. Still have most of it and use it all the time. Some of it is 50 years old. Might have been expensive when I bought it but would be surprised if the containers on sale today will still be in use in 50 years time.
Yes, I remember them more of a social occasion than a sale, though if the hostess was a friend you felt almost obliged to buy something - the cheapest !
I actually did the Tupperware Parties. Yes I agree that if the hosts were friends then more often than not they were also a friend of mine. That made them feel doubly obliged i guess. I used to get them to offer alcohol punch. People buy when they're tipsy...... What!!!! I had kids to feed. LOL I thought it was very expensive even back then. I dread to think how much it would cost today.
