Share Your Favorite Films and Series: Reviews Without Spoilers

I have been the first to complain about the amount of Netflix, Amazon, film topics on here. Requests for suggestions etc. But to be honest a list of titles tells nothing about the film/series or why you liked it. So, how about choosing something you have loved watching during lockdown (or an all time favourite), and giving us a proper review without spoilers so we can tell if we would fancy watching it.
Try not to repeat another's favourite but 'like it' if you have 'liked it' too lol.
Folk seem to watch more than read so maybe this will go down better than the book club.
sunny101 maybe we should both have a little lie down now!
It is a shame because the bond comment/thread is not on here so it's all very well mucking about with them but it does cause wholesale confusion.
I always thought a subject could be repeated after 30 days and it doesn't seem to bother LD when people keep posting Netflix topics.
Lynibis Sorry for the confusion L, no disrespect to your thread
You have probably seen my complaint to tom on the other thread
I was posting about the new james bond film i saw last night, i made some interesting observations
But it has been rejected at least 8 or 9 times up to now for all different reasons including already been posted , which it hasnt, yours is the closest moderation could find to reject it
cheers
telmel that is really strange because I was sure I wrote a thread about James Bond a couple of weeks ago when I saw it. Maybe I am confusing it with another site I contribute to about film and tv.
I don't see why your bond thread should have been rejected because bond is such a national treasure and more than deserves it's own topic.
sunny101 You're quite correct but It only shows as posted by TelMel in the listings - It was probably merged with the earliest topic, because he's constantly complaining about many of his topics being removed - when IMO they're quite rightly removed.
If you check you will find that after the listings both the topics are the same one posted by Lynibis.
According to the new rules started today L , you are allowed to post a repeat topic 90 days or older, but i am exempt apparently
We’re introducing a clear new guideline about duplicate topics - if it hasn’t been discussed for 90 days, you’re good to share it again! (certain exceptions apply such as our voucher request topic)
The new rule didn't apply before today. so you're shouting before you're hurt.
Also the new rule doesn't say you can repeat a topic 90 days or older (as you first say) it actually says "if it hasn't been DISCUSSED for ninety days". So by my interpretation that means if the LAST comment was within 90 days then a new topic shouldn't be started.
Furthermore it wasn't stated the guideline had been introduced it said "We're introducing". Fairly reasonable to assume the introduction took affect from then, but it does not change anything that happened before that change in guidelines.
I just posted a reply D but had it removed for some reason
I posted my topic TODAY not yesterday so your interpretation is not relevent
We can only guess why it was removed - I'm guessing it was like many other replies to my comments where I have non-confrontationally explained certain guidelines. I didn't see it - so don't even try to infer that I was responsible for it being removed - as you have repeatedly accused me of reporting your comments or topics before. LD will know who reported any posting or comment. The last time I reported anything you did was concerning my Smart Meter topic. As I told you there if you want to accuse anyone of editing your comment to try to incriminate you - report it to admin - they can easily check. (if they're not too busy trying to work out how anyone can deny even knowing about Latest Deals - a few years after they'd first posted here)
Incidentally you posted what you deny BEFORE it was announced that the guideline was being changed. So my comment was relevant. They don't make changes to guidelines retrospective.

This may be of interest to anyone who is thinking of seeing this film.
I've gone back to I Player and Around The World In 80 days. It's much better than I had Imagined it would be.
I have never particularly got on with this story on film. I caught a bit of a very old version as I flicked channels recently, starring David Niven, is that what you mean? I rarely use iPlayer as I have so many other services to keep me viewing, plus the recordings of bbc shows.
I recently saw Cyrano at the cinema and absolutely loved it. There is a link to a review of it above, in my last comment.
Lynibis Around the World with David Tennant on IPlayer it's a period drama this time and not an old film.
Not sure if it is worth even reviewing this one as Netflix are taking it off in September. It is called Resurrection Eturgrul and tells the story of Eturgrul Ghazi who was a Muslim tribal leader in the 13th century. Not much is known about him but I read his short biography and astonishingly he lived to the great age of 90 despite fighting constant battles. His 3rd son Osman was the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
It won't appeal to many as it is Turkish with English subtitles and well over 400 episodes. However, I have found it totally addictive and it's full of goodies and baddies, betrayal and loyalty, romance and tradition and some very handsome/beautiful stars.
Well I have finally finished Resurrection Ertugrul which wasn't bad going, well over 400 episodes in 2 months. One day I watched 19!!!
It was rounded off at the end and then I saw by accident on Instagram another series called Kurulus Osman which continues the story through his son Osman. I am so frustrated that it is not shown on any streaming services and I can't even buy it on Amazon. Even if I could it would be out of my reach at over £149 which is the price of Resurrection Ertugrul!
Lynibis Resurrection Ertugrul was awesome. Watch RISE OF EMPIRES - OTTOMAN, a docu-series on Netflix. Mehmet who is a descendant of Osman endeavors to fulfill the prophecy and take the Red Apple.
Lynibis I am not condoning these type of free downloads L but they have it here on pirate bay
There may be some pay services similar to watch it on that would be not too expensive

LoadsaMoney it is so good to find someone who has enjoyed a series as much as yourself, absolutely awesome! I don't know anyone else who has seen it. I have seen and made a mental note of the one you mention while flicking through Netflix. Do please let me know if you see or have seen Kurulus anywhere.
Lynibis There are 3 seasons of Kurulus Osman, which can be found on YouTube. In season 1, Each episode is over 2 hours long and there are 27 episodes. Not gonna give any spoilers away though, don't wanna ruin it for you.
LoadsaMoney I understand there is a series 6 of Ertugrul though so want to watch that first.
Lynibis Good luck with that. I think you will find that, there is no Series 6. All the talk of a 6th series is just clickbait. Kurulus Osman is the continuation of the story and any pictures or thumbnails floating around of an older looking Ertugrul are taken from Kurulus Osman. But please, don't just take my word for it.
LoadsaMoney Thanks, I will keep an eye out and hopefully will be able to watch some time in the future, I am suffering from withdrawals and couldn't find anything decent to watch last night that I hadn't already seen

This is a petition that is hoping to save it on Netflix, maybe you and your husband would like to sign.
Anyone who may like to save the show and reads this I would be really grateful if you signed, even if it's not your thing it would make this member very happy lol.
MrsCraig I have been watching clips on YouTube as I seriously miss this programme and so cross that I could only see series one of the following series. Anyway, out of interest I just checked Netflix and it is still showing so I reckon the petition must have worked. I will definitely watch again after Christmas.
LoadsaMoney have you seen Barbarosa? It also stars Engin Altan in the lead. Once I got used to the new characters and different time I have found it just as good as Ertugrul and Osman.
Freeview TV, Sunday's Columbo on 5USA 12 noon-9pm. That's what I call a box set to die for. To those who haven't heard of it. It's about a scruffy Italian detective who solved the crimes after the tv viewers has witness it.
Hi everyone, I am on the beg again asking if anyone would be kind enough to go on this Netflix request form for Kurulus Osman. You can make 3 requests so still two for any you wish to request. help.netflix.com/en/titlerequest
I am frantic to watch this and they are now requesting signatures for KS to be shown on the petition site.
If you are in to battles, betrayal, treachery and lots of 13th century drama you will love Resurrection Ertugrul.
I have resurrected this chat (pun intended) as I am so glad that Resurrection Ertugrul is still showing on Netflix, but still no sign of Kurulus Osman. I guess this means they do take note of petitions and requests.
PhilipMarc I came here specifically to ask you about a comment I think you made on this subject when I was trying to find out how to watch this series. I may have it confused with telmel comment above. However I have spent nearly an hour trawling through chat to try and find my topic on asking for help with ideas to watch the second series. I know you are a bit of a tech wizard so wondered if you also commented somewhere on a way to watch it. Forgive me if I am confused about this as it was a while ago
I've not watched etrugal but have started watching kurulus Osman from season 4. My dad got me hooked into it. It is so good. I watch it on YouTube, but it's dubbed in Urdu. I've also seen some episodes on Facebook. Worth having a look.
SalmaS such a shame you haven't seen series 1 to 3 as there is a lot of back story. If I had to choose I would say Ertugrul is the better of the two but sadly yesterday was the last airing of it on Netflix, 31st March.
Currently I am watching Barbarosa and Engin Altan (Ertugrul) plays one of the main characters, Baba Oruc. Not sure yet as I have only watched one episode.
I loved that new film on netflix called Your Place Or Mine real feel good chic flick kind of film.
I am now watching another subtitled Turkish series called Barbaros. They certainly know how to make good tv.
I watched The Fringe...Great parallel universe series and not to far fetched at all just fun.
I am now watching Person of Interest...
Hopefully the Government doesn't have a secret system and anything where good conquers evil is right up my street.
I really had to come back to this topic as I have been watching a great series that I must have missed along the way. You will be relieved it is not historical, which is usually my go to choice of genre, but is set in the present time. I expect some of you have seen it but if you haven't it has kept me gripped and I watched 10 episodes on the trot yesterday, probably today too as I am on final series.
What is it about? anything I say will give it away but think supernatural without being scarey, story of a family caught up in weird happenings with fellow passengers from a flight they were all on, shadowy government agency, callings and tragedy along with euphoria. Try it and see. Only series 1 and 4 on Netflix presently, Google will tell you why, but worth the wait until it all appears.
Love the hand maids tale. I made the mistake of watching it during lock down but recommend it. It's brilliant
