Should You Take Stuff from Hotels?

I read somewhere once that hotel staff expect people to take wee shampoo, body wash samples as a token reminder of where they stayed but taking the robes, slippers etc costs them £1000s each yr in replacing these as they’re usually specially embroidered with the hotels logo etc. Personally speaking I couldn’t take a robe etc from a hotel though that doesn’t mean I haven’t been tempted especially if they’re exceptionally cosy and soft

I have only taken what you are allowed to take, if I haven’t used the miniatures then I will. The slippers are also yours to take but not the robe. I read recently that people are putting bleach and other foreign liquids in the wall shampoo and body wash. That is really worrying.

I don't think taking a few coffee sachets is a issue but larger items are just pure theft. We'll all end up having to pay deposits for the sake of other stealing.

No. Even if you're allowed the smaller items I would sooner leave for the cleaning staff.

I would take mini toiletries or maybe some but not all drinks sachets but nothing else. I’m not that keen on the sachets anyway and usually take my own that I know I like.

Ooo of course it's all part of the stay and price, mini toiletries, and the tea coffee bits, if I've not already used them all, slippers are free aswell

If I’ve opened the moisturiser or shampoo then I take it. Better to use up the contents than throw away.

Technically speaking it's all theft and if you can afford a holiday you can afford shampoo and slippers eh. Guess it's a matter for the individual conscience. I don't pinch from hotels but I'm not averse to taking a few extra sugar or sauce sachets from eateries lol.

No it isn't right to take as you put it stuff from hotels except possibly the shampoos and shower products left in as complementary.

Anything else should be out of bounds.

The reason for this is that number 1 it's nothing else but theft and number 2 when you take stuff from your hotel who in the end pay's for the theft it's us basically and hence why the price of a room is steadily increasing for us as a customer staying in the hotels.

It has to be passed on to the customers when things are stolen and they have to recoup the money from somewhere and it's always us as customers who lose out.

We stayed in The Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport on 9th of August before we flew to Portugal & took the few IRISH Teabags provided with us to Portugal where my partner & our daughter enjoyed them.

I had already brought a few Latte Sachets for my partner,Nescafe Decaff for myself & a few of her favourite Lady Grey Tea Bags for our tea loving Daughter so these IRISH Tea Bags were a bonus.

I don't take anything I'm not supposed to but I am guilty of hiding those tiny tots of milk,Tea Bags & Coffee Sachets so they get replaced when staying in an Hotel for a few days!

How I HATE those USELESS TINY TOTS of milk used in Hotels & other places,what a waste of plastic, I can imagine lots of people struggling with these,surely it's time to ditch them??

Yep I aways take what I know I can even the biscuits if I haven't eaten them part of the fun. Oh and at breakfast I love those little pots of jam if they have them

No I don't take anything from the hotel. I don't even use the stuff there I use my own.

I have taken the odd complementary bottles if I hadn't used them .

I always take the little bottles of shampoo etc as I figure they are included in the price they charge me for the stay. Same with the disposable slippers.

It depends what it is . I’d say it’s ok to take the shampoos , soaps etc because once it’s open they only get thrown in the bin once the room is cleaned for next guest. However the towels , robes etc they are reusable so shouldn’t be taken . I think that’s the items we are talking about . I don’t imagine anyone actually would contemplate taking the TV’s , beds or furnishing lol

I usually take the toiletries but would not dream of taking a robe. That is stealing in my opinion.

I think it's OK to take the little bottles, and the slippers but not the Bath robe.

Generally if i get ripped off by hotel or poor customer service which seldom happens then i would take compensation out of the towels or something. Otherwise only coffee and sugar and sweetener.

Any unused sachets of coffee,tea,sugar,biscuits,never milk as they never give you enough each day,I love strong coffee but not black! Slippers never seen any in places I've been too,only once have I seen robes in the room.Pots of jam lovely,always take them.

Abroad,always at breakfast time,in the hotel at a self service buffet with cheese and ham slices on offer,I'd make cheese and ham rolls for our lunch,wrap each one discreetlyin a serviette and put in my beach bag,after eating a large healthy cooked scrambled egg & tomato on toast for breakfast with my other half.

The food would only have gone to waste after we had left as it was a fresh spread of meat and cheese everyday,it was quiet as we always went down later rather than early so we could do the above.We could never ever find a butty shop or salad bar and we don't eat take away type greasy junk foods.We had no choice,we had to do this,or have no lunch.

A lot more hotels are changing the shampoo/conditioner/ body wash to fixed pump containers- its much cheaper for the hotels and i cant see many people trying to steal those.

In my opinion, taking the small shampoos etc is no big deal. The gowns are usually a decent make. So if everyone took one or 2, the hotel will have to keep replacing them, then the cost of the rooms will increase.

Don't see a problem with taking complimentary shampoos conditioner, packs of tea etc, that is factored into your room rate anyway. Gowns, Towels bedding etc are a definite no thou

A few months back we stayed at a Premier inn and had breakfast there, we saw a family of five two adults three children having breakfast,, but also filling their bag with things like fruit and pastries for later,this i thought was unacceptable, especially as they were already getting free kids meals as part of the deal anyway.

I worked somewhere that the salesmen were instructed to take the complementary tea and coffee samples from every b&b or hotel room. They kept the staff kitchen going in the leaner months when we couldn't afford to buy any.

The little tiny bottles are meant to be taken as they are given per room. All tiny bottles are full and never half way. Even tiny soap soaps that are in a packet. once open they will throw it out so the next guest gets a new fresh lot. It will look tardy if it is mid full.

But if its attached to the shower in a massive bottle. Then deff not. On the most part I am never too fussed but when I like something and feel its a good quality item, I want to finish the product myself to see if I would want to buy for myself as I feel hotels have a special deal with certain companies as it is a way to introduce that brand new people so finishing the tiny bottle in your duration or after gives you a fair idea if you like the product to buy next time.

A lot of time I bring my own products incase I don't like the brand they give or I use what is given as I want to genuinely try the product or like the product or for the gym once open but never will purposely stack up and over consume more than given. Im very cautious with chemicals anyway.

Tea, coffee, shampoo yes why not they're there to be used or taken and what's the chances they will get binned anyway after your visits

I would not take anything nowadays, I used to take the mini toiletries but I realise now that's damaging to the environment.
