What Activities Do You Do to Calm Down?
Ask a Question
When and if you get stressed or just need to relax what do you do? Walking is my go to for this.
I walk and walk and walk some more. Never angry or upset when I've been outdoors in nature for awhile.
MelissaLee1 I love walking and will walk miles, sometimes my husband has to come and collect me and bring me home.
I do enough walking every night through my Job so thats out of the question for me. I listen to my numerous playlist of songs through YouTube when I am not at Work.
Walking, Listening to Music, Diamond art and most things with animals; walks, cuddles and even cleaning them out
i have a range of tools iv collected on this over the years. meditation, yoga, walking, deep breathing ect.
Take the dog for a walk, read, cross - stitch, you tube & drink copious amounts of red wine.
SaveMeSunday I tried to respond to your post but looks like it was removed or merged with this one.
I loved that little technique/game you shared. I also like a similar technique you can do on your own involving distracting your brain and focusing on something else. But this one brings you into the moment and helps you focus on that moment in time and around you.
The person needs list the following:
5 things you can see,
4 things you can touch,
3 things you can hear,
2 things you can smell,
and 1 thing you can taste.
Some examples:
See could be trees, a toaster or even a light switch.
Touch, so the chair they are sat in, the table next to them, the grass on their feet.
Hear: aeroplane, cars, your voice.
Smell: Pollen, Air freshener, deodorant.
Taste: Gum, Saliva, Lemonade.
When I read I am totally oblivious of the world around me and am immersed in the story, to the extent that worries disappear. The downside is that I often drift off to sleep!
Lynibis Reading can be very relaxing as long as you are not interrupted which is so annoying as you have to read the last lines over again.
eyeballkerry Well I have no one to interrupt me (unless phone) but I find that because I drop off while reading every night, I have to re-read the last couple of pages in order to remember where I was. At the moment I am reading Sarah Ferguson's book, (a heart for a compass) not bad but not what I am used to.
I find walking or cleaning help me relax when I'm stressed. I've heard EFT tapping can be good for anxiety and stress release.
I sat and thought about this for a long time and realised that I don't have a method to help me relax or de-stress.
For example I enjoy cleaning, but I do it all the time, so I don't do it to help relax me specifically. Same with listening to music, I have it on whilst cleaning, so don't it to relax either.
Maybe doing these things helps me to subconsciously relax. But I don't have a specific thing that I do to help relax or calm me.
I like a long walk, or some rigorous exercise, particularly if stressed out. And I like gaming - it usually chills me out
hspexy I do the walking, I do the exercise but gaming is not really my thing. My son spends a lot of time gaming so he should be really chilled.
eyeballkerry lol hope so. Some games can make your blood boil…I play less of those kind of games
I do a variety of things regularly to build resilience and as part of my self-care practice, like: deep breathing, Reiki, meditation, Energy Medicine, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), nature walks...
I play online backgammon to unwind. I don’t have to rely on anyone to play with me, the search connects someone worldwide.
I'm a simple chap, so I just keep to moderate cigarettes and alcohol.
Not healthy, I know, but it works for me.
I'm normally calm, but if I sense trouble I'll just step away.
What would I do, still? Listen to Country music, I guess.
I love running, reading, music, that usually keeps me calm(ish) if that fails a nice glass of wine
Read, listen to asmr great soother. Go for a walk in the rain also helps me, even though I know it’s not for all!
I love being out in nature and taking photos of my surroundings. We have a lot of lovely public gardens where I live that I enjoy visiting and taking photos of.
suzz My dad plays golf but something I have never been interested in. I prefer a walk without hitting a ball, we are all different.
