Did You Agree with This Year's BGT Winner?
Other
The winner was personable, likeable and funny..... but talented? In my opinion.... no.
Once again the great British public have proved they cannot tell a talented person from a mediocre funny man and I feel gutted for the truly talented people who missed out.
Even if you don't like magic, dance or music how can you not recognise true talent when you see it. There was a couple of singing youngsters a magician and an acrobatic couple who had more talent in their little fingers.
However i once again dispute lumping all young and older acts together as kids always seem to get the aaah votes. They should have up to 17 and 18 plus.
This is always the way with these talent contests, us Brits love a character and if there's an interesting backstory as well we usually are hooked. The good thing is even those who didn't win will get a boost in their careers from the exposure.
Happens every time in these types of competitions. The actual talented ones never get picked. Really surprised how Simon was backing him, he never used to have time for acts like this.
eyeballkerry yes I was really surprised too. He even seemed to like the pants bloke but I didn't feel he would have been suitable for the King and Queen!
Lynibis I think the bloke in the pants was great! A refreshing change. It's all subjective at the end of the day.
MelissaLee1 yes I know what you mean but can we really say that was a good act for royalty and did he have 'talent' ? More so than the young magician, dancers and singers? It must destroy them and wreck their confidence knowing that the British public preferred a joke act to them.
I didn't watch the final but I know the act you're talking about. I admit I wasn't expecting him to win though he was entertaining. I would have chosen the dancing guy with one leg or the young lady who can dance impeccably
It's a popularity contest really, not a talent competition. I didn't think he was that funny, not to my taste but he seemed likeable so can see why some people liked him.
Glitterandgold he was very likeable but unfortunately likeability is not talent so he really shouldn't have won.
I stopped watching BGT years ago. It has done its time and should be binned. No one has become famous via it for the last couple of years.
jam45 I don't mind when they keep it short, done and dusted in a week. Lots of contestants are making good livings off the back of it, recording contracts, shows etc. Tom Ball from last year is doing very well but my favourite was Maxwell Thorpe but yet again a kid won (mediocre) and will not be able to pursue a career until school is finished by which time he will not be remembered.
I think a lot of the dance acts are very much the same now, I loved Diversity, but I feel many people try to use them as a guide now.
And I adore the singers but often wonder why they don't go for the separate singing competitions, considering there are many of those and after all they are looking for a variety act.
I feel some of the acts did better in their auditions.
Although Viggo Venn and Tonikaku were annoying, they were also in parts very funny and I do think it is very talented for someone to get so many people laughing and having so much fun and forgetting about life for a moment, which is what we need.
Travis George was great in Casualty, he has been in a couple of episodes and was great, I'd imagine he may have some connections that could hopefully get his singing career going.
I would have loved Lilliana Clifton or Amy Lou Smith to have won but I have to admit, I strangely love Viggo and I don't always laugh easily, but must admit I did laugh out loud at some points and he changed his act up
If there's one thing the British public has proved beyond a reasonable doubt - it's that they cannot be trusted to vote for anything. Letting brits loose on the polls is a surefire way to make sure everyone ends up disappointed (including the people who voted). For evidence of this see: every election all the way back to Churchill. Brexit, Indyref. We are a nation of plebs, unfortunately.
FearLoathing I totally agree unfortunately, education is the key and that went out the window during the 60/70s and out the door in the 2000s when woke/pc set in.
Lynibis You just need to take a look at the most popular TV shows in the UK to get an idea of the calibre of people who share the island with us. Love Island and Big Brother were frequently the most watched at the time they aired.
Most watched programmes of all time is even more depressing. Of the top 10, four are episodes of Eastenders. Number 3 is an episode of coronation street. Number 10 is 'Miss World 1967'.
To say people here are easily entertained would be a polite way of putting it.
Maybe you're right about those dates too - that's when TV became a household item, around the 60's, then came Social Media around 00's. Two things which have seemingly robbed people of independent thought
I didn't take a great lot of notice of BGT. It seems to be mostly about the judges, especially Stupid Bruno. The winner was okay.
He was very popular with the audience, worked the stage very well indeed and took time out to entertain the crowds outside of the stadium before the show. In short, He had the audience eating out of his hand before he even set foot on the big stage.Clever lad really. It's not always the most talented that win the prize,it's the most popular.I know some amazing musicians who have outstanding talent but just lack stage personae sadly.
He definitely wasn't my favourite. So many others were far better but who knows what is rhe peoples choices. I do love how diverse we are and how we open our doors to everyone no matter what there talent, race or country.
Lynibis You could say that about NI or ROI acts too then as they are not in Britain, but don't think it would go down well
Anybargains well NI is part of GB, or UK I suppose is the correct one, but I take your point.
No I didn't agree with this year's winner. There was amazing talent on that stage, they chose an idiot skipping around the stage. It had to be a fix to end up with that idiot.
ElizabethM10487 I know I am probably being profoundly rude saying this but I really believe the majority of the great British public can't see past an idiot skipping around the stage. I am constantly amazed by the ignorance shown by the masses, learning does not end upon leaving school.
More talent in my big toe. I did not find him or pants guy funny at all. I loved the young opera and no doubt he has a career ahead of him, as does the lady who had the baby. For me it should have been Musa. Not for the sympathy vote but purely the skill and talent he had. In my opinion there should be a separate show for kids, just like with the voice. Although so many of the young singers have obviously had singing lessons. I honestly don't think it's fair for young children to appear as they don't have the maturity or coping skills to deal with rejection.
No I didn't agree. Also too many kids acts they should have own show if under sixteen.found it boring.
Totally agree. The winner was amusing but talented? Come on .......hardly talented. One of those other people wit talent eg lilyanna or the young magician should have won. Never going to watch that shambles of a programme again. Ridiculous.
Whilst it may appear the winner was a chaotic silly bloke. As the auditions prove, there is skill and talent in being an entertainer that can bring 1000s in an theatre together and have them laughing and having a good time.
Simon Cowell has lost the plot and needs to join our " Spare " prince in his quest for no publicity. How he chose underpants prat over the other talented folks just demonstrates that. It's Unbelievable that a fool in a high viz jacket can be chosen over such fantastic talent. The losers looked stunned and dismayed that he won. I look forward to seeing the King and Queen ( consort) in their high viz jackets.
I have nothing against him and to be fair to him I more than enjoyed his stuff. However, I agree with the comments that say there were more worthy winners. Absolutely unbelievable young talent, to say the least. And the adults in the final were also talented. We have always said that one winner should not be the case, but a combination would make it more fair and more enjoyable too. Singers, with dancers and perhaps another type of act would be more ideal, in my opinion.
petrospaikkos great idea. It would be lovely to have the royal variety show entirely made up of the top talent of BGT past and present. A true mix of ordinary people (not yet celebs) to entertain our King and Queen.
I watched it and was shocked that Viggo Venn won, to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I actually thought I was watching a different show to rest of public voters. I think it made total joke of a talent competition and can’t see King Charles finding him funny or amusing (he’s been known to laugh at things cos others are & then turn & ask why were they laughing as he didn’t understand). There was so much talent on the show, some amazing dancers, singers and magicians that had more talent standing still on stage that Viggo had in his full act. From Simon had his son Eric he’s mellowed a lot and puts through acts he would never have allowed before
I haven't watched it in years, it's all seems the same now, although it can never be as bad as love Island.
One things for sure, we won't forget him .
The general voters all seem to vote for people they like now, instead of voting for actual talent. Even he seemed surprised he'd made it to the end, I won't be watching next year.
I would have preferred Tonikaku (pants guy). But I feel like Viggo brings joy and that is a talent. A non traditional talent yes, but a talent none the less. Furthermore, Tonikaku would have been amazing! He brings joy and it's something like Viggo's that has never been done before.
I would have loved the African children's group to have won and money to have gone to a genuinely good use. What a wonderful man doing what he does for the kids
clairrobins74 yes I totally agree. The money would have made so much difference to those children and that man could have helped so many more young kids like them. That man who looks after them is 1 of life’s true heroes and world needs more like him
I couldn't believe he got into the finals with that silly routine. It just shows you could do anything and the public will take the P and put you through. He even had the Red X from Simon before Simon changed his mind later.
The boy magician was truly talented and deserved to win, but so did so many others who lost out through this man fooling around. Unbelievable !
I like a laugh like anyone else but really? That's talent? More suitable for a primary school end of term party
This is supposed to be Britains got talent. Why do they allow people from other countries to take part.In my eyes it should have been one of the adult singers.
DianeCherrell I suppose if I am playing fair a lot of Brits go on the talent shows of other countries. I recently watched Tom Ball and Maxwell Thorpe on YouTube singing on Spain's got Talent, they were runners up last year and both deserved to win.
Absolutely not. Couldn’t believe it. It’s supposed to be a talent show. The hours that dancer Liliana must have put in practicing, the beautiful boy singer, boy magician and the young man dancing with the crutch were all far more worthy than the winner. What are we coming to!
PatriciaHarris the boy singer and boy magician were my favourites to win but the solo dancer and the couple who did a routine on ribbons/rope were also very good.
I was so surprised when the adult singer who belted out 'it's a man's world' went out so soon, he was so good.
