Air Fryer - Advice Please
Ask a Question
Looks like I'm going to have to retire my deep fat fryers and get an air one due to my partner's new diet.
What kind of things do you cook in your air fryer and are the chippies any good?
Thanks.
For me honestly I didn't like doing chips in mine they was like oven chips I only ended up going chicken wings in it lol
TheChimp a Whole chicken takes an hour. If you spatchcock it or it’s a small one it can cook in 30 mins.
Air fryers cook everything so much faster (except large cakes which you have to cook lower temp for a bit longer). I love mine as they preheat within a few mins so I don’t use my normal oven anymore.
They do take a bit of getting used to with timings but you treat them a bit like a fan oven reducing the temp and times. There are lots of Ninja groups on Facebook you can ask for help.
TheChimp that is the biggest downside as it’s hard to clean around the fan. The pots are non stick so they are easy to clean though.
snoogans888 Ah, that's a shame.
With my deep fat one, the heating element is at the bottom and just slides out, so you just empty the oil, give the non-stick pot a clean, refill with oil and you're ready to go again.
And the food is nice and crispy
I'm really going to have to think about this one
TheChimp the food definitely gets crispy and it’s healthier than deep frying of course.
I’d say it’s a winner for 90% of foods, sweet and savoury.
But you really can’t beat proper deep fried chips! Especially the crinkle cut ones deep fried in lard that my fiancés mum cooked for us when she was alive.
Remember an air fryer is basically a mini fan oven - no magic ! I've had mine a year and used it twice - still use my fan oven all the time .
Bear in mind that the £20 -£30 1.5 litre ones are a waste of space , unless you are happy with a small portion of chips (which is all they will cook ) . For a decent meal or for 2 you need at least a 3 - 4 litre one .
I have ninja the best airfryer i think i got the dual drawer one it haves advantages and disadvantages b it they are just great
We love chips in the air fryer. My husband makes his own and does them in the air fryer and our families love them.
An air fryer cooks things faster and it uses less electricity than an oven. It is healthier too.
You can cook pretty much anything in an air fryer, just depends on the size and type as to how much you can do at once. We do chips, roast potatoes, baked potatoes, stuffing, naan bread, chicken, sausages, fish etc in ours. We use it almost everyday.
MrsCraig you can cut pizza to fit. I make my own so I shape the dough to fit, although I do have the Ninja Max grill which has a very large surface area.
MrsCraig oh maybe you have really thick ones then? Or I’m just super aggressive with a knife!
snoogans888 must be the 2nd one! I have trouble cutting them with the pizza cutter after they are cooked!
Whilst cooking lunch I thought of an alternative as you mentioned your wife’s new diet - an electric pressure cooker. I have the Ninja one as a multi-cooker including Air frying function.
Depending on the kind of food you like to cook this can really save a lot of time/gas/electric as you can cook a stew in about 30 mins. Rice pudding in 25 mins. Brown rice in 20 mins.
I cook loads of different things in our air fryer. From chicken, bacon, sausages, I boil eggs, heat through left over pizza. Have also tried baking but just can't get my timings right, yet! My husband doesn't like chips cooked in in but does like wedges, potato croquettes, garlic bread and loads more side options. To clean mine I put some washing up liquid and water into it, put it on a high setting for 10 mins then empty it out. Quick rinse with clean water and it's like new. So much easier that my trusted old deep fat fryer
We buy Albert Bartlett chips from Waitrose and they come out perfect for us in our air fryer. But I suppose it comes down to personal taste. I had a booklet come with my first air fryer and had a great recipe for stuffed mushrooms.
I just have a small one as only the of use, and I use it for chips and love it. I am waiting for it to pack in (had it a long time). And then I’m going to get a bigger and better one
