Air Fryer or not...

Ask a Question

Whats peoples views on air fryers, do chips come out just like crispy like from a deep fat fryer or is it just like cooking chips in an oven?

Not much help from me I'm afraid. I once won one but it looked such a faff and I lacked worktop space so I haven't ever used it! 🐞

I have an air fryer and the chips came out good. I am trying to figure out how to make it crispy. I will also want to make chicken and other items in the air fryer as it was advertised. It's healthier to make it in the air fryer so if it works out ill use it more often.

I do french fries pretty regularly at 150 Celsius degrees for about 14 minutes, once done I leave them inside.

If you are doing french fries for a lot of people then you need more time and to flip them otherwise it's good as it is.

Yes definitely, I’ve cooked a lot of things in mine. The biggest hit was home made scotch eggs. A lot better than deep frying!

hey I'd never ever have thought of doing those in the fryer! Brilliant.

BORDERJOE I’ve even cooked frozen sausage rolls in them, they even came out lovely. (I didn’t want to turn oven on as it was a hot summers day and was getting bits ready for a little picnic)

We have an air fryer and we love it! You can cook loads of stuff in it. Chips are amazing in it, so are lots of other foods. I've done chicken, fish, sausages, roast potatoes, they were all delicious.

Don’t know what I would do without mine! Everything goes in it, kids fishfingers, pizza’s fishcakes the lot. Chips don’t come out crispy, well they don’t for me anyway. They just come out like in the oven

BORDERJOE not sure how much it is on amazon but b&m have it on offer for £39 and so do JTF. It’s amazing it literally cooks fishfingers in like 7-8 mins and a frozen pizza in 12 mins. Super fast and has 2 layers so you can cook loads at once!

I like mine (Also a Tefal) for how it cooks, but it’s a real nuisance to clean. Everything seems to get totally stuck to it and makes me end up not using it because of it. It could be I just got a bad one since everyone else is happy with theirs though. Maybe I should try a different brand.

The trouble is that they aren't cheap so it's a big step to have to replace a 'wrong buy'.

BORDERJOE I agree. The frustrating part is that it does cook just fine, but it’s the 30+ minutes of scrubbing it afterwards that takes away from it. It puts me off getting another in case the same thing happens again and I don’t use it.

cocolgooh when I cook the kids fishfingers or pizzas it doesn’t need a deep clean. If I put like chicken In it, it needs cleaning but I then add foil first before putting the chicken on top then throwing the foil away so it don’t take long at all to clean

sam30 I’ll have to try using foil and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion!

Had a Phillips air fryer for years and works great. I do currently use the halogen oven more partly because its better placed on the worktop but both are great and well used.

If you are buying one, get one with a digital screen and with at least 3-4L in case you want to do some batch cooking.
