Anger in Italy as Tourist Filmed Carving Names into the Colosseum

In the News

Well here is another example of someone with an IQ lower than a chimpanze, sorry to insult any primates

In what world do you deface a 2,000 year old iconic roman structure by carving your name into it ?

The idiot should face prison and a heavy fine to cover the damage caused at the very least

What i don't understand is why the newspaper has blurred out the image of his face?

Surely the way to catch him is to show it so the public can identify and help the authorities find him ??

I am sorry to say but nearly all types of bad behaviour can be traced back to lack of care, discipline and no instilling of morals by parents. They seem to slope shoulder all responsibility to others and continue to pop out kids they don't really want and it's too much effort to raise them correctly. I see it on a daily basis and it does my head in.

I am sure they actually showed his face in an article I saw recently, I am really surprised that they have blurred it now. We can safely say that his name is Ivan so that should narrow it down quite a bit. Surely it should read - Does anyone know this moron Ivan? Thousands will know who he is... I'll bet his mum is really proud?!

What an idiot! it seems as though he's not the first though. Maybe they need to put up a few signs with clear consequences for those who fail to see the issues in causing criminal damage. Common sense seems to be failing some.

A fairly extreme example of an ignorant, selfish, pointless romantic gesture. Couples have long defaced trees, walls, toilet cubicles, buildings, bridges etc with their declarations of love. Governments have started banning people from placing 'love lock' padlocks on bridges due to the damage they cause and safety issues. For example, a section of railing on the Pont des Arts bridge, in Paris, collapsed due to weight of padlocks. Many of the bridge love locks have now been removed - did relationships end as a result? Couples are a public menace. They need to be stopped!

Midnightflower I had the sinking feeling he would be as soon as this news broke a few days ago.

When I'm abroad, I can always tell if an approaching group are from the UK, alas.

How utterly embarrassing and disgraceful behaviour from a UK tourist. Should be banned from the area and fined a hefty amount.

Jerseydrew Even graffiti artists have more sense than to deface ancient buildings , i wonder how he would feel if someone scratched their name into the side of his car if he has one ?

Just completely selfish, i get the appeal and romantic ideas behind doing this but just why. Thankfully only a few do this sort of thing and if they were still not adults it would be easier to give them a pass.

Disrespectful and unnecessary but not surprising - some people are just ignorant at the impact of this kind of behaviour.

When I was in my twenties I came home sozzled in the early hours and for some peculiar reason thought it would be funny to write the word tea bag on a tea bag. When I came home from work later that day my father bless his soul had written on everything in my room in black permanent marker..er including my white electric guitar! I never did it again lol.

When I read this, I couldn't believe anyone could be so stupid to do this, I read an article yesterday where they identified him, Ivan Dimitrov, 27, he is a personal trainer who lives in Bristol, hopefully they will throw the book at him. He could face up to five years in prison for his actions.

The Carabinieri said that after discussing the incident, Dimitrov expressed "sincere remorse" for his vandalism.

How could he not know it was wrong, I think his remorse was because he has been named and shamed
