What Are Your Thoughts on Animal Testing for Cosmetics?
Ask a Question
I was totally shocked to read this article
www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-65484552
I personally wouldnt buy any cosmetics tested on animals, I know years ago it was a selling point for Body Shop, that they werent tested on animals, a lot of companies followed suit.
What are your thoughts on this ?
This is awful news I'm shocked they have allowed this again i will definitely looking at all new make up I buy to make sure it's not tested on animals
Leannexxx It's like going back to the bad old days, I used to always check that my make up wasn't tested on animals, then stopped as the assumption was that it wasn't.
Anita Roddick ( founder of the Body Shop who campaigned against animal testing) who made me aware of this issue, must be turning in her grave.
Oh my gosh you would have thought times had changed enough not to slip back to this. Disgusting.
Awful. Not ok is it. I don't wear make but that's not the point. This is a backwards step
Jerseydrew I very rarely wear make up, unless I am going out but it's shower gel, shampoo, skincare ..... The list goes on.
beccatavender I know it's awful. Loads of products that we use will change. It's horrible
How awful, I suppose all we can do as consumers is refuse to buy from those companies and hope it makes a difference.
What companies were seeking this change? Any UK based cosmetics company that starts testing on animals will face boycotts, regular demonstrations outside of stores and other negative responses. It's not needed.
Someone has to be the guinea pig to test a product so it's either an animal or a person (may get paid, but whatever happens isn't the company's fault as the person signs the form of consent).
It's pointless banning animal tests here if we still allow the importation of cosmetics from other countries that are tested on animals. You effectively destroy your own industry and create even more debt. Companies like L'Oreal are horrific for animal testing and sold in the UK market. To ban local testing but still allow importation just shows the economic stupidity of this country. We should have a full ban on cosmetics being animal tested and using animal products within them so we can neither do testing here or allow such tested products to be sold. Of course over night a huge number of products would disappear from shelves but in time alternatives would appear which would probably be cheaper. It might also reduce innovation in cosmetics. However it could lead to a trade war however a full ban should be a high priority.
Given a choice of being hunted for sport with a chance to escape or being horrifically tortured lasting days, weeks or even months most of us would prefer to be hunted. I personally could never buy cosmetics tested on animals. I seem to remember in the past the only person I met who was pro animal testing was a horribly selfish woman, huge ego, not much intelligence and of course incredibly vain. An absolutely soulless husk of a woman. Too stupid to care to be honest.
There's absolutely no need. So many companies are Cruelty-free yet sell to the Chinese Market, who still test on animals on import and it winds me up. Obviously they will be aware China do it but still try to claim as a company they are Cruelty-free because they don't do it themselves.
I don’t wear makeup but am against it since it’s a non essential thing. Animal testing for medical purposes is more acceptable in my book
jms19 I totally agree with you, my son called me a hypocrite as I am OK with animal testing for medical purposes. He told me you are either against animal testing or not and there is no middle ground. I tried to explain my point of view that medical testing could potentially save lives, but in the end we agreed to disagree.
