Anti Pee Paint Being Used by Soho Council to Stop Drinkers Urinating on Walls

In the News

Westminster City Council is ''splashing'' out on anti ‘pee paint’

It is a waterproof covering that repels any liquid sprayed against it causing it to bounce back at the source

They have done this because public urination in central London has increased significantly since Covid restrictions were lifted and cleaning up costs are nearly £950,000 a year on average

The Germans have been using this since 2015

So anyone leaving a pub or nightclub and deciding to relieve themselves against a newly painted wall in the early hours will need to dry themselves off before they get home

And good luck getting a taxi when smelling like a toilet

It's a pity this wasn't invented years ago to paint the inside of the old telephone boxes, people made more calls of nature in them than telephone calls at night

There are some modern outdoor pissoir toilets in the area, but not many. Most public lavatories have permanently closed in London (and elsewhere) and when it's late at night there aren't a lot of options. When people hear about this paint they will likely just urinate directly onto the ground.

ACR Its ok to do that A, they are not damaging paintwork aiming on the floor, its when they point at fences and brickwork that causes problems for cleaning

So, what happens when it rains heavily at an angle? Does that also bounce back onto passers by?

A good idea but is likely to be unworkable. The irresponsable person only have to find somewhere where there is no anti pee paint and the problem is not solved.

jam45 This was like an "April Fools joke " not in the news at all , even a week ago (which adds to this sad poster's litany of non news 😒) ! Sadly only our prolific non news poster for points has disgraced themselves yet again .

jam45 J, they have been using this paint in Germany since 2015 and they found it a success, so there is no reason it won't work in the Uk

Well it appears Westminster Council don't see the connection between a lack of public lavatories and people going to the toilet in the streets of Soho. As they are selling one of the last (I believe Carnaby Street toilets are still open) indoor public toilet in the area - www.timeout.com/london/news/a-soho-toilet-is-up-for-sale-122122.

It could always be turned into another (former toilet) coffee house (www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/victorian-toilet-coffee-shop). In an area already saturated with places to get a coffee. This is really taking the ....
