Anyone Else Get Anxious When There's an Unexpected Knock on the Door?
Ask a Question
Hi everyone.
Do you get all anxious when someone knocks on your front door and you just want them to go away? The abruptness and unknown makes me really tense, even more so when the person continuously knocks. Needless to say, I never answer my door unless it's someone I know and on friendly terms with or I'm expecting a package. If it's important they can text me (should they have my number) or drop a note through my letter box or something.
I also don't answer phone calls from withheld numbers or numbers that I don't recognise. If it's important, they usually text or leave a voicemail.
If I am not expecting anyone I let them take it out on the door and wait for them to go away. I never answer what I’m are not sure of.
Oo no .... You never know if it's an unexpected floral delivery, doesn't happen too often it's usually to take in a parcel for the neighbours but keep wishing!
It's usually the mailman or the Evri guy, but other than that I'd have to be suspicious as it were unexpected.
Always ask for ID to verify he/she works for the company they say they do.
After all these years, TV License goons haven't shown up which I'd not mind talking to them, but refuse to allow them to enter the house without a warrant.
I was like that for years, although I don't know why! We got a ring doorbell and now I can just check who it is on my phone and ignore them if it's someone I don't know or don't want to speak to.
Get a video doorbell so if it's some one you don't know, tell them to go away from your phone lol, I never answer calls from unknown numbers , nearly always spam calls
martinlufc5637 I feel awkward talking on the phone at the best of times, particularly to someone I don't know from Adam. I much prefer to talk face to face or email.
Don't like unexpected knock on the door at night, even worse an unexpected phone call really late at night or in the early hours.
Mango4 I had a knock on the door at 2am a couple of months back. Needless to say I didn't answer.
Unless I'm expecting a delivery or a family member visiting, most of the time I don't bother answering the door.
I would never answer the door unless I know who is there, I'm quite lucky as in that I have a video doorbell but my front window is a bay and I can peep therough that without the person knocking seeing me .
I am same. Used to be I wouldn't answer after dark but now I avoid all day after being kept on doorstep by tradesmen and charity people. As you say, anyone important can phone or text and say 'let me in'
We had our neighbour come to the door today. His car was telling him he had an issue with the battery and he wanted to borrow our charger. If I get an unexpected knock at the door I look through the peephole to see who it is and then decide whether to answer. I don't answer at night time though.
No. It’s only a nuisance when you don’t expect it, and I happily slam the door if the need comes
My dad used to shout "there's no one in, @%£& off" . We are in an upstairs flat & from our bay window we can see who it is. If i dont recognise then I'll just open window & ask.
My wife wont answer the door without knowing who it was, especially in the evenings. I am a bit less careful but wont answer the door after about 8pm. I dont answer phone calls I dont recognise. I have an answer machine - if they want to leave a message I can call them back - otherwise not interested. Sadly these days you have to be so careful. The days when every one left their doors unlocked are long gone!
We have a lot of home deliveries so they generally knock and go. Other than that it is usually a neighbour or family member. We usually have our door unlocked so family just walk in.
eyeballkerry It's nice that you have that trust with your neighbours.
I would leave my front door unlocked for family members, but there have been a few dodgy characters around here including burglaries.
RegularComper91 We are very safe where we live and our door is unlocked the whole day if we are in. We do have cameras and a ring door bell but never had any problems.
If I'm not expecting anyone they can phone or text me if they know me. I have two cameras on my front door which I can communicate through verbally if I choose to. I'm certainly not going to struggle down my stairs for no good reason. It doesn't make me anxious as I'm not bothered.
