Other

Went shopping at weekend and bought some items that were abit to much for a shopping bag..carry pizzas flat..carry cases of water..nappies etc..the lady on the till said keep your receipt. Because you haven't bagged all your items..i said are you joking..i felt like a criminal...you might get stopped on the way out of the store

I often forget to take my bags out of the car so just have to put back in trolley once scanned and paid. I would always insist on a receipt though as it’s possible we could be stopped and questioned. I also think if you are an honest person as I am, if questioned I would insist on going to relevant check out operator if you used one who would remember you. If using a machine I would insist they play back the cctv security to prove my innocence. Thing is so many thieves about now.

JLouM it's my regular shopping place and I was taken aback when they said this..I had plenty of shopping bags. But don't always feel the need to pack every single item..maybe that's just a generation thing..

Kitty10 It might just be that they have had some thieves and are being watchful. I shopped at a different Sainsburys recently and I couldn’t get out of the barriers! I waited for someone to use the entrance ones and I sneaked through. Everything bagged and paid. Then I watched someone else hold a receipt over a metal post and it lit up and opened the barriers!

I have heard that a lot of places are asking to see receipts before you leave because there has been an increase in shop lifting.

MrsCraig I bet they only stop obliging looking people who they think will allow it. I wonder how many bruiser, big, nasty looking folk they stop😂😂😂

Kitty10 I usually just bring my 6 foot 2, built like a rugby player husband with me, but will have to figure out a look for when he isn't there.

As you are aware with everything that has gone up, thefts are happening. It has always happened but it is getting worse because people just cannot afford several items. If you felt like a criminal, you should of asked for your money back and gone elsewhere. I have not been to ASDA since last October. I go elsewhere and never experienced anything bad. If I did , I would shop someplace different.

I always get a receipt for the scanning apps to earn money!

But also just in case I need to return something and to prove I’ve made the purchase.

snoogans888 I took it that the lady was being helpful rather than unpleasant. Our big asda is in a very rough area so I guess shoplifting is not uncommon. It would be hard to lose your receipt between cashier and car park.

Shoplifting is a major issue where I live at the moment. Stores have to hire specialists security to protect stock or face having £100s stolen daily. A lot of thefts are by professional lifters who steal to order (booze, meat and high value items are their favourites) and therefore increase costs for all those who actually pay. Its a very sad reflection of our society.

Midnightflower just goes to show that cctv doesn't seem to stop it. There is no excuse for it really with the amount of food banks now available. They are even joining the televised charity adverts now.

Lynibis they don't seem to care about cctv or police. I would be more sympathetic if they were stealing bread and milk but they don't it's steak and booze.

I have had this happen a few times to me (i think the badges on my bag set off the alarms) it can be a bit embarrassing but i make sure that they search me on the spot so that everyone who has seen me be stopped can also see that I haven’t taken anything

I see they are now in bother over an equal pay law suit. I am all for equal pay but it could cost 1.6 billion (?) and will open the way for other supermarkets to be sued. We all know what that will mean, even more price hikes for shoppers.

I always keep/take my receipt, infact in our Sainsbury's if using self scan you have to scan your receipt to get out.

I was in Aldi yesterday with my husband and my son. The casher said if I wanted my receipt and I immediately thought about this chat.

Kitty10 Hi Kitty. I work on a till but not in a supermarket. A lot of people now have banking apps that do it for them so they don’t require them. I always ask if customer would like a receipt from my card reader as I always get a receipt for all my card purchases myself to keep track. I don’t bother if it’s small cash usually for my records but I do think what if I get stopped for any reason. Then I think yep better to have one.
