Should We Have 3 Bank Holidays in May Every Year?

Ask a Question

I just loved the extra day off this May. Can it be a permanent thing?

No, 3 bank holidays in May is too much and as one of a huge number of self employed I have lost 3 days pay. I would sooner have one of the May holidays at the end of June or mid July.

A extra bank holiday would be lovely but not in May. I have to work 3 bank holidays and as they are always on a Monday, except Good Friday its just like another day to me as I don't work Mondays.

I don't work Monday but don't get bank holidays off anyway. 3 in one month was too much most years that would be 1 Monday normal in whole month

Unfortunately for some of us we don’t get extra pay. It was too many. Never had this growing up. There are far too many holidays nowadays celebrating this and that.

I'm happy with the 2 we normally get in May, the end one means that I can celebrate my birthday with my daughter as she's home from Uni,also means we can go up put flowers on my my late brother's Grave for his birthday 6th May & Mum's Grave for her birthday on 27th & have a meal out to celebrate my birthday & their birthdays..

I’ve always worked in jobs where it’s been a choice to work it or get an extra holiday at a time that suits me

I think most of us need an improved work/life balance.Bank holidays would help with that.

I’d love an extra bank holiday every year but maybe have it in a different month

jjs1985 I think this year's extra Bank Holiday has something to do with King Charles Coronation in other words it is a one off day to celebrate his crowning.

PaxAmerica No, I wouldn't like a third Bank Holiday in May. Two in May is enough for me.

Yes although in a different month say June or July so they are more spread out. I think England has less bank holidays than other countries. At the moment I don’t get all of the bank holidays paid but I feel as I’ve got older the time off is worth more - we all work for bills so much and what becomes the point, work for bills then die!
