Can You Believe Anything You Read These Days?

I do try to find answers to my questions online. A very simple one today, for my healthy diet i wanted to know, 'is it safe to eat raw oats?'
Guess what, lengthy articles on both sides, yes and no, one saying they were healthier uncooked, the other saying cooked brings out more nutrients.
Most of the time after googling queries i find i am more confused than before!
I'm a keen fan of Dr Barbara O Neill who is as knowledgable as she is healthy.Oats are all go with her.
MelissaLee1 I need fibre but no sugar if possible. But there are so many wrong and possibly dangerous articles on google type platforms these days, not to mention social media. Even when I read historical stuff many articles differ with things like dates and even names.
Lynibis True enough.I used to be a Press Reader so understand media quite well but the magic box is far worse . Just got to learn to sort the wheat from the chaff and pray for powers of discernment.
Nope absolutely not. Too many believe everything the see or read on the internet and belief it to be gospel
KateGriff169 Exactly, but you need a degree of intelligence to sort the wheat from the chaff.
I tend to ask on here ! Its a great. Shame that Michael Mosley is no longer with us as he used to be able to cut through the lies - often using himself as a guinea pig.
Oats - I have been led to believe that ‘overnight’ oats - the uncooked ones are less healthy for you than the cooked ones. The less processed the better ie:- the oats that you have to cook properly are better for you than the ones that you just mix with boiling water.
suevernon1968 I was just using that as an example but thanks for the info. I have been having yoghurt with fruit I have chopped up and was mixing with a few oats to add fibre and substance. I love cooked porridge but never the micro packs, just proper oats cooked on the hob. Had to stop eating it though as I needed a mountain of sugar to make it palatable!!!
Jerseydrew it drives me crazy. After Liam's sad passing, one news item I read said he was 28 where others said 31.
Lynibis it's awful when they get facts on something sad wrong.makes it harder for tge family suffering
I eat porridge most days , i buy the oats rather than the pre made rubbish in packets
So quick in the microwave, add milk, stir and 3 and a half minutes on full power
I have tasted the oats raw out of curiosity but cannot imagine eating them this way
When I looked into it all the oats you can buy in the shops are partially cooked using steam to prolong shelf life. Those are probably safe to eat straight from the packet. However, If you buy groats or pinhead oats then those are not cooked at all and should definitely be cooked.
The porridge I have is basic value oats, some oat bran mixed in and then microwaved using oat milk and then sweetened with stevia sweetner. It is nicer if you microwave with actual sugar in with the oats etc.
wilsonflorence ha ha, this has turned into a porridge topic lol, I was only using it as an example of not being able to trust anything you read online. I read once that oat milk is a slurry of oats and oil so don't fancy that. I have tried Stevia but it tastes awful, I use half spoon which tastes normal but my diabetic nurse said your body doesn't differentiate, so still not good for you.
Lynibis Oat milk does seem to vary a bit, I'm guessing the nicer versions are also the least healthy. I had one the other day and it was thin and horrible even in coffee and surprise surprise it was the healthiest. I'm a bit lactose intolerant so do use it quite a lot as I actually quite like it in coffee (its awful in tea though) and makes porridge even more oaty if that is possible. I like stevia and it is healthy in theory but many stevia products add some rubbish in with the healthy stevia. The decent stevia sweetener is very expensive, I just use the cheap Aldi/Lidl/Asda type stuff.
I don't like any breakfast oats so I will steer this conversation back to Do You Believe Anything You Read These Days...
Not a lot, try reading our local newspaper on line but most of it is nonsense!
I don't really look for things online, I found it impossible to get a right answer when I was diagnosed with emphysema, if I believed googles life expectancy, I'd already be dead lol
I don’t believe everything I read, especially with introduction of AI. Take somethings with a pinch of salt.
Things to with diet and nutrition can be very difficult. There is so much conflicting information out there about it all.
Yes the grammar, spelling & reporting aren't accurate sometimes..
The reporters don't know their areas & always class this road or place as being in that area when it's not, it further out!!
