Best Loyalty Cards
Money Saving
Hi everyone, I'm researching a story for the News section of the site about what the best loyalty cards are.
With recent news about the value of Clubcards decreasing, what's the general opinion on which loyalty cards are worth having?
Also, what are the best deals you've picked up with loyalty cards in recent months?
Thanks! Imogen
I find Sainsbury's Nectar card quite good. You get personalised discounts on a selection of products roughly every 2 weeks which you can get with the smart shop. You also get extra points on selected products.
At the moment I don't do a main shop very often. Instead I swap between supermarkets depending on what I need and what's on offer.
Asda rewards is good, I’ve built up rewards much quicker on there than I have with Clubcard or Nectar. And easily redeemed them.
Superdrug health and beauty card is good, easy to build up and redeem. Not necessarily the quickest to build up (obviously depends how much you shop at Superdrug) but it all adds up and they regularly do offers like double/triple/bonus points.
It depends on where you shop as to which loyalty card or app is worth it. I use the Lidl app as that's where I do my main shop. I got a free Easter egg this week with the app.
I have the Asda app too. It takes me a while to build anything up as I don't do big shops there, but if it I'd where you do your main shop then definitely worth having.
Tesco is still worth using, even if they have reduced the rewards.
Boots is good too, although only offering 3 points instead of 4, still worth having.
Nectar is brilliant if you shop in Sainsbury.
I have all the above mentioned apps, but use some more than others. If you shop in a certain place and they have a loyalty card or app, then use it everytime you shop.
MrsCraig Thanks for your helpful comment We've given you some bonus points to say thank you
I save a lot using the Tesco clubcard as its my main shop but agree that the Asda rewards app is also very good if you are lucky with their offers. I dont shop there as much even though its just up the road. Dont go Sainsburys enough to really make much use of their card but have it on my phone just in case! I guess thats the benefit of having cards on my Google Wallet - I will always have the right card where e I shop!
I've a waitrose card that I use and I get vouchers to use. Not much of a savings but better then nothing
Amazons shopper panel rewards where u get £5.00 a month... All u have to do is install "amazon shopper panel" app and upload your receipts... It's that simple
I've just found an app called Airtime Rewards which offers cashback on purchases at various shops which you can redeem off your mobile phone bill. I've only just downloaded it so not had chance yet to see if it is worth it but you just link your cashcards and shop as usual. They also have some offers to earn extra amounts.
I doubt there is such a thing as the best ? If you look at Tesco ,Morrisons , Aldi etc ,etc and Sainsburys Nectar they are much of a muchness ?
Like Topcashback and Quidco they make a shopper feel they are getting something back ? However whatever discounts cashback are available are factored into the gross profits of the retailer .
Unfortunately such "reward" schemes and cards are factored into prices so not so much a "discount" if you use them more a surcharge if you don't !! Tesco clubcard being the prime example (now much discredited ) .
Use whichever you want , use your noddle , but realise they are only after your shopping habits and personal info . As always a bit of intelligence goes a long way .
I'm pretty sure that retailers factor in these various "apparent " discounts when setting their prices ,hence (I believe ) adding a couple of percent to the RPI ?
nectar for me. The personalised extra points but also the discounts by using the shop & save app. I think the Asda one looks good but I don't have a shop near me to use it to benefit. Boots has good points but they are more expensive (I think) so it doesn't always work out a better deal
Nectar is really good because I do get quite a lot of nectar points for smart shopping and also do surveys on 2 sites which boost it no end . The sites are e-rewards and nectar canvass .
They say that Iceland gives back the most if you use their pay before you buy scheme. I think you get a £1 for every £20 you spend. Not cards but apps, i have been using green jinn, checkout smart and shopmium these last couple of days and my fridge is heaving with freebie especially with yogurts. Jam has been a good one on green jinn.
Probably Tesco club card for me I like how you get discounts there and then rather than waiting for vouchers and then getting vouchers is the bonus.
I find Asdas rewards card very good the amount you get back from general shopping is mental, and you actually get money off your shopping not just points
I found that Superdrug took my points off me, reduced them to 0, presumably because I didn't shop very often but I won't bother at all now. Boots took off all the points on my over-60s Advantage Card 2 weeks after I'd checked how many I had and a shop assistant said they don't meddle with your points without informing you first. So when did they tell me? When I went to buy a 50p snack 2 weeks after that reassurance and I was told I had no points to use for it. Very embarrassing in front of the lunch-time queue.
Tesco ditched some points because they said they expired but the idea is that you're encouraged to save them towards a nice reward!
Not very rewarding in my experience....
We have used Clubcard, nectar, Waitrose, Asda, Superdrug, Boots, the works and hobby craft. Overall we have got the most out of Clubcard by using for days out and eating out. That was before they reduced the value though. We have also bought a few things for the home on nectar points. The others not so much really. Collect points anyway but don’t really build enough quickly to benefit from them. I quite like the co-op app where you can choose 2 offers every week with a certain amount of money off.
We use the coop , nectar, Tesco's. Use the Tesco one the most . But the all have their perks for different reasons.
