Best Wet Weather Activities with Kids
Ask a Question
Looks like we're set for rain all weekend! Best suggestions for keeping the kids entertained?
If parents are willing to participate then the obvious ones are board games. However, I have always tried to incorporate teaching into games so sitting round table with pen and paper and doing anagrams is a good one. Depending on age list as many cartoon characters, monarchs, capital cities, car makes, countries etc the list is endless. Have a small box of prizes for the winner, apple, 20p, cake, etc and see who has the biggest hoard.
While they do anagrams (check spelling when done) get some ingredients out and ready for some baking or making lunch as it's important kids should learn to cook.
Don’t know ages but we used to play memory game every time we were together indoors. Get a tea tray and find 10-12 small items around the house and place on the tray. (E.g keys, pen, tape measure etc.). Give everyone a pencil and piece of paper. Let everyone have 1-3 minutes to commit to memory then cover over with a tea towel. Everyone has to write down as much as they can remember what is on the tray. When everyone has remembered as much as possible and can’t do any more tell each other how many items they each got. The number not items. Then do the big reveal and take off tea towel. Usually end up kicking ourselves for 1 or 2 items. It’s easy and fun for a laugh. Only hard bit is one person who finds the items in the first place but can take turns.
In London we’ve got loads on museums that are great places as a source of entertainment (and education)
You could do a treasure hunt around the house, play hide and seek, act out their favourite book or film, pretend to be their favourite pop star and put on a concert. Complete an obstacle course around the house, get them to write a sequel to their favourite book or film.
