Big Brother Becoming a Reality
Other
I guess we have all heard of Big Brother in George Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984.
I am beginning to feel that we are now marching inexorably toward a Big Brother future where harmless thoughts, actions and pastimes will be forbidden to us.
You have only to read through chat at the things that keep cropping up like people objecting to full stops on social media, not using certain words, statues being torn down etc. Now they are calling for the end anthem of the proms to cease.
I can see a time when people will be scared to express an opinion because the thought police will descend upon us!
I've never read 1984 but I have to agree that there are too many things that can possibly offend people now its unreal
I haven't read it either but know the plot and have seen snippets of the film. It is basically living in a world where everything you say and do is censored and your every move is watched and dissected....no free thought. I think modern technology is also bringing us closer to this.
I recently got an echo dot, left it plugged in and whenever I voice activated it blue and green lights flashed and it replied. However I have noticed lately that it has been flashing an orange circle without me speaking to it at all. I ordered it off but it kept coming on and in the end I turned it off at the plug!
The orange light means you have notifications ie a package will arrive today. Mine doesn't say what the package is anymorei disabled that for when I buy surprises for presents, I also disabled buying things through it@Lynibis
Imnotcheap gosh, thanks so much for telling me that. I had ordered from Amazon around that time. I will have to Google instructions as it was given to me without by my son when he upgraded.
Lol, thought it was spying on me! Still think they do Tbh
Lynibis I'd google the lights on your unit as I'm sure there is a problem with wifi connection if it's flashing orange. When you have a notification about delivery it's a bluey green. Just ask Alexa notfications. Update - this is much clearer:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GKLDRFT7FP4FZE56
Imnotcheap how does it know when you have a problem with your wife? That Alexa sure is clever!
Because it says 'Britons never, never, never shall be slaves'. Not as in the national anthem about the Queen but as in the anthem to round off the proms or the anthems at footie matches.
Getsome well with all the diversity going on and people of all races, colour and creed being or becoming Britons I would suggest that they are all included in the sentiment, especially if another country tried to invade us.
Also there have been slaves of all colour, creed, race and religion since time immemorial and still are now.
Everyone should read 1984, I reckon we're getting very close to its situation.
As for the BBC, it's an absolute joke and should either be subscription based or taken off our screens completely as it's not fit for purpose to a lot of people.
And as for banning certain songs at The Proms, if you're not happy with British culture, you know what you can do.
I do find myself checking before I speak so as not to offend. Always scared of saying the wrong thing. It is only a matter of time before things get serious when we have snowflakes wanting to ban full stops etc. When they are old and effectively gagged they will wish they had kept their silly ideas to themselves.
