Birthday Cards and Wrapping Paper
Ask a Question
Where do you buy good birthday cards at cheap prices? I used to buy them from the card factory shop 5 for £1, I haven’t been there for a while now. Last time I bought one from Sainsbury’s just to collect Nectar points with grocery shopping.
As for wrapping paper it’s best to get them when you see them at a reduced price! Or I reuse wrapping paper lol nothing wrong with that!
Hi. Sometimes card factory or sometimes Tesco is where I get mine usually. It’s not cheap but can use Clubcard and I only buy occasionally. Sometimes I don’t want a roll just a sheet and tag depending on what and when it’s for.
JLouM I have not been to Tesco for a long time, just to the Tesco express up the road. But yeah that’s good to get them when on offer with Clubcard! Thanks for letting me know
Yeah I do find it a waste to use nice wrapping paper with the patterns and colours as it will just get ripped up lol gift bags are a good alternative I reuse them too
kitty88uk Yes gift bags are good too. If you are a real scrimper sometimes when we receive a gift in nice paper - if you unwrap VERY carefully you can reuse. We have been known to do this. It’s a bit like regifting but with the wrapping. Just remember who gave it to you though . Better to use on someone else.
I got boxes of birthday cards from Amazon there really nice and a lot cheaper than buying in the shops. Too expensive now. Wrapping paper I always buy when it's on offer. Gift bags Ive started putting presents in to reusable shopping bags you can get really nice ones with Winnie the Pooh or flowers on. I find these are cheaper than gift bags and stronger. I got some from The Works.
KAW18 boxes of them are too much lol won’t be good to keep giving them same card design to people lol
Yeah nothing woe f with reusing gift bags! Or shopping bags they are just used to store gifts and will get reused as well like a shin bags or something lol don’t need anything fancy be a waste of money!
I always buy wrapping paper at christmas when you can often get 10m or even 20m rolls for decent prices. We just choose something less obviously Christmassy. Last year it was a smart gold / red design which will probably last us for the whole year
didbygraham yes I do that too! I used a Xmas wrapping paper for for free many years ago from WHSmith from o2 priority lol it just said for what you wished for so used it for wrapping up a birthday gift
How pricey is wrapping paper these days! I want a good 5m to 10m roll of feminine paper then the same if more masculine and recently I seem to only find a metre or 1.5m which is ridiculous! I found 2 good rolls in Asda actually one pink and one blue bet generic but they were 6m each I think for £1.50 each but other than that it's generally overpriced and not enough to wrap a present in!
didbygraham I'll take your tip on buying less Christmassy rolls in the sales the thank you
I'm lucky that I live near one of the cheapest card shops in Sheffield..Ron's, known & loved by loads of people..
Named after the owner who passed away the other year, its been passed down to his son Mark now Grandson Will..
I first stepped foot in this shop on Christmas Eve almost 26 years ago, new to the area & needed a few last minute cards..Ron, his wife & Mark their son stayed open til every last customer had been served..
Now that's what I call customer service!! The card shop is 65 years old this year..
We also have a Wool Shop a few doors up the hill run by a lovely lady, she's worked there 70+ years & that little shop has been open 85 years this year!
janphoenix51 wow 65 years old! Wow so many shops are still going strong even to this day! Well done to all of them!
Try and buy reduced rolls after Christmas which would be suitable for wrapping birthday gifts. If it's for adult gifts just reuse gift bags and tissue paper, gift bags in our family keep doing the rounds so never have to buy any.
I only give cards to very close relatives. For good friends and others I usually get a small gift of chocolate, small bottle of wine, book mark with date and occasion written on back. I always explain it's in place of a card and more useful as cards just get binned. But as Fitchet says, card factory does great cards starting at 99p or even 4 for £1.
Lynibis I like that idea!! Giving a bookmark with the date and occasion! And it won’t go to waste! If your family and friends read books !! Yeah I’d have to go and have a look but the shop is far in town centre so I usually go to Sainsbury’s pricey but collect 1 nectar point with grocery shopping
We get all of ours from the indoor market in town, very reasonable prices, we get all the wrapping paper ect... from there too
martinlufc5637 that sounds good I haven’t been to the market in a long time! Everything is bought at supermarkets cause we collect points lol
I buy lots when cheap after Christmas, last year got some after valentine's then use all year round
Imnotcheap have Xmas ones already from a few years ago when o2 priority gave them to their customers for free at WHSmith!
Yes that’s a good idea buy Valentine’s Day wrapping paper when the day is over and it’s all been reduced can use it for birthdays
Imnotcheap haha yes exactly as long as the presents are wrapped up is all that matters
I did use Xmas wrapping paper once for birthday gifts and friend didn’t mind lol
It just gets ripped up and binned anyways
Imnotcheap yeah I agree it’s a waste of money cause gets ripped up when fists are opened!! Reuse wrapping paper!! Valentine’s Fay one’s always have nice colours and designs can be used all year round to be honest! Xmas ones the same too if they don’t mind, even newspaper I’ve used it once lol
kitty88uk my partner wrapped my birthday presents in the packaging they came in. Personally I prefer paper
Imnotcheap is that so, someone else said can use the brown paper that comes with your items when you buy on Amazon I didn’t think of using them lol they end up in the green bin to recycle
Imnotcheap oh!! Lol lmao that’s crazy why use the plastic?!! Yeah the brown paper is better to wrap gifts with! And can be recycled or you can unwrap it use it again lol
Wrapping paper is something you can get quite cheep in alot of places normally £1 after Christmas especially, as for cards I rarely do cards if I do its normally card factory or get my nephew to make them
wonderingsoul yeah I don’t need any Xmas wrapping paper as I have a lot of it left when I got them for when o2 priority and WHSmith were doing freebie offers, they have since stopped doing it a few years ago!
Card factory usually, although their range is hot and miss. Poundstretcher sometimes have a decent and cheap selection, depending on the occasion
I usually go to Asda as they do cards from 25p. Poundland usually has wrapping paper which is reasonably priced. I tend to buy wrapping paper from B&M as I find it is affordable.
I usually purchase them from the card factory as they are generally the cheapest but we also have a card shop in our shopping centre that does a real mix.
eyeballkerry that sounds good May have to go look at the card factory again but it’s in town centre and hardly go there lol so closest is Sainsbury’s which is pricey but collect 1 nectar point with grocery shopping lol
kitty88uk I usually pop into town at least once a week. We still have a quite few shops left which I go to, do miss Wilkinson.
eyeballkerry yeah there’s no Wilko anymore here in Leeds, need to pop into Poundland see what they have, there’s many designs not even nice and pricey too!
kitty88uk Our Wilkinsons has been replaced with a B&M. I go in there but it’s not the same. It will take a while to get used to.
eyeballkerry is that so, I like b&m it’s really busy but the one is far away by car takes maybe 20 minutes not sure lol if there was a store in town centre would have been good where Wilko used to be
How is it not the same? They offer more items don’t they? Like foods etc way more than Wilko did
kitty88uk I think we just got so used to Wilkinsons with the layout and products, even got to know the staff. B&M has a lot more aisles which are slimmer and higher, felt very claustrophobic. We know go early on Sunday morning before 9am when no one is around and other shops do not open until 9am.
eyeballkerry is that so that’s nice getting to know the staff members too
Oh is that so, I didn’t know that they open early
Last time went there think 2 or 3 years ago lol we used to go to Morrisons as it was just across the street and would pop into b&m see what they have as some of the items were cheaper in there
I have stopped buying wrapping paper. I reuse the packaging paper that comes in Amazon deliveries, it's really good quality paper. If I have the time and or patience I draw pictures on the wrapped gift, if not I just add a nice bow on top. It's good for packages in the post too.
Auntielettie ah yes I always throw them away to recycle cause it’s very bulky I didn’t think to reuse them lol id have to flatten out the paper first in order to use it but that’s a good idea thanks!!
That’s nice of you to do that, what pictures lol what do you draw? Putting a bow sounds easiest haha
