Poetry Book Returned to Cumbria School Library 113 Years Late
In the News
This might seem like a case of someone either being selfish or just forgetful at first , but as you read further on it becomes tragic
Leonard Ewbank borrowed a Lord Byron poetry collection from the local library in 1911
He then enlisted to fight in the first world war in 1915 , but tragically was shot and killed in february 1916 and the book was never returned
Fast forward 113 years and someone found the book and returned it to St Bees School library in Cumbria
I think he should be honoured for the part he played and they should do something special with the book, possibly put it on display at the library
Can you think of an apt way to honour this war hero ?
I hope the book was a first edition so it’s valuable. A friend bought a secondhand book recently and it’s from an Australian school.
I often buy old books at bootsales and in charity shops as well as old postcards. Many have addresses in.More than once I have been tempted to track down local addresses and see if family members still live there.
MelissaLee1 You should do it M, there's nothing to lose as the saying goes , it could make someone happy , it would be like tracking people down in long lost family on tv
telmel I wouldn't be bold enough to knock doors but maybe a note in the post.I think some of this stuff must turn up on house clearance at times.Worse case scenario.Someone throws out grannies old things when she dies and I turn up and bring it back!
MelissaLee1 Using the post is a good idea M , as long as the letter doesn't go missing for a 100 years or so as in the article i posted recently lol , good luck
