Can You Make Money Selling at Boot Sales?
Ask a Question
I used to do some boot sales in the summer and the most I ever made was £30. The pitch fee for a car is now usually £10 (used to be much less). I’m not sure I would sell as much as £10 now for what I have so therefore would be pointless. Anyone else have success? I don’t have kids or anything related to that stuff.
Not done a boot sale in years. Even when I've sold kids stuff I've not made a load. People want everything for free
Haven't done one for donkeys but hard to make a profit after fees unless you have really good or unused stuff.
I am planning on doing a yard sale later in year on my drive. At least I have no fees, will get rid of my excess stuff, hopefully, and make a few bob.
Someone in my village is doing an indoor one soon it’s £10 a table with the table money going to charity. I’ll give it a go as it’s indoors and 10-2
I haven't done a boot sale for over 10 years now but depends on what your selling, I usually made about £70 - £120 from each one.
lawsonwebb The last one I did was selling things from house clearance and previous ones were my childrens, babies things and general home bits. I had pitches in Oxfordshire and Bucks.
I don't do boot sales, pitch fees are too expensive. I sell things on fb marketplace as it is free to do so.
I've done a few but didn't make much after entrance fees. My other half says car boots are good for buyers not sellers.
katherineannmil That's my thoughts entirely. I see stuff struggle to sell at reasonable prices at car boots. You get those who want reasonable money who sell pretty much nothing and those who sell cheap and shift their products having a good clear out but they could have got more selling it elsewhere but would have put in more time doing so. I've had some great bargains from car boots but rarely go nowadays.
I used to love bootsales but they seem to be dying out now what with all the other ways to sell now, fb marketplace, Nextdoor app, Vinted and eBay. I’m sure there’s few other sites out there too
I was thinking about doing one but the pitch prices are too high. Wouldn’t be so bad if facilities were provided like a loo etc.
lawsonwebb I agree, when there is loo, someone normally says good luck with that, or you're brave.
I used to do car boots before COVID, just selling my old items I didn't want anymore
Used to make £200 - £250 each time
Great to earn extra
A couple of friends used to go to car boot sales and then sell the items on eBay, always making a profit.
Sold loads at boot sales over the years and was paying £6 for a table but they were indoors great as we would get there early and pitch near an electrical outlet when selling kids toys or kitchen appliances but now with the age of ebay you can reach more people now and in retrospect better prices.
It wasn’t really about making money - more about having a clear out and having fun for the day
I did a boot sale last year and made about £70 after the pitch fee. Anything we didn't sell we went to the tip with as we were clearing out the loft. Anything worth a decent amount we would use next door or Facebook selling pages for. Lots of kids stuff to be sold along with old unused items sitting in the loft.
Yes you can make money. You just need to be selling what people want. I don’t think £10 for a pitch is too unreasonable. If you haven’t got enough double up with a friend or neighbour
I did it once and when someone quibbled over the price of cheap pack of playing cards I didn’t bother again. I didn’t make enough even to cover the entrance fee.
