Should We Bring Back Dog Licenses?

Ask a Question

Should we bring back dog licenses? 🐕📜

The RSPCA reports a 23% rise in dog cruelty since 2020. Some argue that it’s become too easy to own a dog. What do you think?

I think there should be a license for owning any pet.

It’s just another tax that only responsible owners would pay. Many wouldn’t even register.

Pjran which helps as you can find out who's responsible and if there's a complaint about a dog in a home you can fine them

SamGoodship not sure if cats need a licence, l regularly see them wandering around where l live, sadly they also get run over and left by the kerb side 😥.

I think any animal should be chipped but not sure on a license that's just another way for the government to use people for money

I have a dog and 2 cats I would buy the licence but I know for a fact that lots of people around me would not we have a family who have new animal s every few months then the poor things are pushed out that's how I ended up with the 2 Cats one was 7 months old and gave birth to 3 kittens in my house so I know the responsibility would fall on responsible owners

How about we punish those who give dogs a bad name and not punish those who don't, blame the owners not the bread, the dangerous dogs act is a farce

I don't remember the old dog licence system working that well and it was a very low price licence. I just think like shotguns etc people should go through some vetting procedure before they are allowed to keep animals which people have to pay for and then they are licenced to keep animals and if it turns out they don't look after their animals or other issues that licence is taken away. I don't think it should be the type of licence that needs to be constantly renewed.

In theory I am in favour of a licence scheme, but in practice in this country it just wont work. The pet owners who dont care for their pets will be exactly the ones who wont bother with getting licences and it will never be properly enforced anyway.

I believe that there should be, as you constantly see on the news unfortunate news about dogs killing or injuring people. Would help prevent cats and dogs being with irresponsible people.

We have them where we are. Totally agree with them. We never got rid of them it's done online so not a hassle really

I do think that every animal should be chipped incase they get lost etc . I would happily pay to get a licence if the money went to an animal charity etc but with so many taxes already it shouldn’t go to the government it should benefit animals . I do however think if you’re going to be cruel to your animal then you probably won’t even care to register and with dogs being born and sold all the time how would they keep track ?

I have just had to microchip my new kittens and my dogs were microchip ( all past away now). All my cats (5) haveAirTags. The answer to your question is ‘yes’. Dogs should have a license.
