British Gas Profits

In the News

Watching the news report British Gas profits and the shock of it and how it's immoral them earning nearly a billion in profits in a 6 month period.

I'm going to sound like I'm on the side of the gas company but trust me I'm not.

A person who I greatly respect Martin Lewis once said in reference to energy companies aren't charities and are there 100% there to make money. When privatisation happened in my opinion wrongly we were told it would increase choice and insanely we would pay less for our energy.

The point I want to raise is something we have seen a lot on the TV which is the shock and horror at the profits but if someone came along and said we Will have a wind farm or solar panels farm those same people turn into there alter egos of SuperNimby and WonderNimby.

For me it's 1 of 2 paths get ourselves away from being held hostage by the energy companies or Push for something different as it's plain to see the current energy market is broken .

Yeah we live in a capitalist society so ultimately most things are there to make the most money possible. Thing is surely the government is supposed to protect the people from this level of profiteering.

British Gas will be paying an awful lot of tax on their profits. The Energy Windfall Tax will help towards the nations debts after subsidising every, including wealthy, heating last year.

All essential services should be heavily regulated and taxed appropriately whether private or public to stop greed coming before decency. Sadly the rich never seem to have enough, but the poor can always do without

I have being a British Gas customer for donkey years and their profit makes me so, so angry. British Gas could at least let their loyal customers get 50% off their bills. But BG would rather give the money to their so called shareholders instead.
