Do You Brush Your Teeth Straight after Eating ? Reasons Why You Shouldn't
Ask a Question
You would think if you brush your teeth immediately after eating you would be cleaning your teeth and mouth and keep your breath smelling good
But it can actually do your teeth more harm than good
I didn't know this but as you are eating, and just after, the enamel of your teeth softens temporarily , especially with foods high in acids
So any brushing within approximately 30 minutes or so of consuming food can damage the soft enamel with the acids in the food
It is recommended you wait 30 minutes or more before brushing so your saliva can neutralise any acid in the mouth
Also brush your teeth before breakfast to remove overnight bacteria and plaque rather than after eating
I assume the same goes for eating at night , avoid brushing straight after eating
Of course, if your teeth are like the stars, and come out at night , you don't need to worry , as you can leave them soaking at leisure
No I don't as I think I heard about it on daytime tv quite a while ago. I have my last meal fairly late (stops me snacking after) and then brush before bed 2 or 3 hours later.
I just do it when I have the time but not immediately after. I only have half amount of my teeth left anyway. Soon be like the stars!!
I've had a good few teeth taken out for brace's and one I broke on salt and vinegar peanuts
I’ve been brushing my teeth before breakfast for years. Also don’t rinse so the fluoride carries on working.
Yes I’m aware of that. Having a rinse with water is fine, but no brushing as it’s too abrasive. You’ve got to let the saliva do its job
No I eat then brush my teeth later..
Have juice so don't want the acid so less it til when I get ready
I only read this recently due to fact I drink green and lemon tea and they recommend you wait before brushing your teeth after having drunk this.
Yes I had heard that, i've always cleaned my teeth as soon as I get up and just before going to bed.
