Business Man Loves NHS Food so Much He's Spent £10k Eating at Hospitals
In the News
Well that places a big question mark over all the complaints about hospital food
This business man actually chooses to eat in different hospitals around the UK , and he is not even a patient
He actually loves hospital food and it all started when he was visiting a relative in a Bolton hospital
Omar Shafiq , not Sharif the actor, lol, has been munching on their cuisine since 2022 and reckons to have spent over £10,000 on about 700 hospital meals !
He thinks they are far better than any meals you can buy in the supermarkets and prefers them to even the likes of Nandos , and likens them to school dinners back in the 90s
He even goes there in different disguises sometimes incase someone questions why he is there so many times and not even visiting a patient
I suppose there is one certainty , the hospital canteens are probably spotless , so no chance of food poisoning from mould or rodent droppings etc that you might find in some dodgy restaurants and cafes

I have never considered NHS food 'good'. When Mr T was in hospital I had to take him sandwiches as he wouldn't touch their food
The staff and visitors canteen is certainly better than the food served to patients but I don’t go out of my way to use them.
My local hospital restaurant is actually really nice. It's open to the public and they have a cafe at another part of the hospital that sells things like sandwiches and crisps. Really popular with those not actually using the hospital. If it makes local hospitals money I'm all for it
Wonder what hospital he’s visiting he needs to get them to pass tips on to my local hospital
KateGriff169 He mentions London and Glasgow K but no particular one and one in Bolton that started him off
I must admit I like most hospital food as a patient lol always have shepherds pie, sandwiches are always fresh
Can't say I had a issue with hospital food last time I was in had peri peri chicken and rice it was lovely lol
Interesting idea I suppose and it would depend on the Hospital and canteen but it is possible to get a decent meal at a reduced price and a large portion cheaper than a restaurant or cafe.
Would never have crossed my mind to pop into an hospital for food or a coffee , thou a new hospital near me has a costa coffee just inside the main entrance so I suppose why not.
When I was in Yeovil Hospital a few years back with Covid I must admit I loved the food and felt it was very good quality. Portions weren't huge but I felt the quality of the food was decent. Small puddings as you would expect. I really enjoyed the curry they did, a nice fruity sauce but as you can imagine not much heat so acceptable to a wider range of people. The breakfasts were nice too.
Good for him! Even if the food was good, I wouldn't choose to eat where there are many sick people around
My sister & her colleagues work so hard in the hospital catering for different people..
Their food is really good & most people seem to enjoy it...
When I was a Day Patient in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield the food was excellent, I have to say...
I often go to the hospital restaurant as I’m there every fortnight. I had my dinner there today
The hospital food is horrible, but when you’re ill you don’t wanna eat anything! But in the hospital restaurant it’s okish .
PhilipMarc Maybe he's a sucker for punishment P regarding food , or he is more savvy than we all realise
This is crazy. I mean, it’s not the worst food - but it’s definitely not the best. But if he’s not hurting anyone, who cares. He can enjoy his nhs grub
Only ever used hospital canteen when visiting a family member and it was a stressful day and time of day when we didn’t feel like doing dinner ourselves. It was ok food, just ordinary and nothing special about it really. It was convenient that day though.
The food you can purchase as staff or visitors is different (and better quality) than the dinners served to patients, in most cases anyway.
Food from hospital cafes etc has mostly always been fairly decent, and reasonably priced. I don’t think the ward food is that great though
jms19 Not understanding how the catering system works in hospitals J, does that mean patients receive their meals from a different source than the cafeteria ?
If so that needs addressing , they should both come from the same source
I can see the meals being similar to those airlines supply and coming from a private company
Oh dear. I can only imagine how awful he is at cooking himself, as well as his standards. No Michelin food for him then lol
