Would You Buy a Cardboard Bed Base?
Ask a Question
Watching the Paris Olympic team this morning and they have cardboard bed bases . One of the athletes was bouncing up and down on the bed and it looked really sturdy.
I think it’s a brilliant idea and was wondering if anyone would buy one of these for their house? It would also save a lot on landfill.
I saw this on the news and I thought it was a great idea for sustainability. Looked really solid as well.
PhilipMarc They we’re bouncing up and down on them and they were adults. The Olympics teams are sleeping on them.
julie781x Sure, when new it's solid, but after time it'll probably start to fall apart.
Being totally practical it's not a good idea for children's beds or bedwetters and would they be more flammable than conventional bed bases?
If it’s tried and tested I don’t see why not? I try and be sustainable where I can so I’m not opposed to the idea entirely just think I’d want more info on it first!
You can get coffins made of cardboard now , but they will not be made to last that long of course
Could just imagine buying 1 of them for my 17yr old granddaughter. She’s autistic with sensory issues and as she’s got older she’s learnt to try control her involuntary hand flapping but when she goes to bed you would think she was at a trampoline park lol. She’s been living with me 13 mths and is on her 3rd bed. 1st was 1 I’d had few yrs for grandkids so was over 10yr old. The 2nd 1 was supposed to be extra strong but broke in 2 months (bed was faulty) so now on her 3rd. Just hoping it will last longer (promised it was extra strong but we will see )
I wouldn’t be against it depending on price and how sturdy it is. Could be good for student accommodation or for people who have just moved and are short of cash
I started using a mattress on the floor about a year ago.I so love it and sleep so much better so will keep things that way until I can no longer get up from the ground.
MelissaLee1 As I was reading your post l was thinking I’d never get up if my mattress was on the floor.
julie781x I thought that as well but you get better at it.I am still strong in the upper arms thank God.
I’m not sure how long that would last in my home. I have five cats and they would love to use it as a scratching post!
I don't think I would as I think it is a false eco claim. The lack of longevity in use would surely outweigh any ecological help for our planet. For me I just consider it a gimick that some lucky people are hopefully earning rather nicely from.
I don't think that I would consider one of these for a bed base, not sure how long it would last before having to buy another!
Can’t say I desire one without trying it, but it makes sense (the mattress is more important for me)
I mean short term probably a great idea but long term it would weaken pretty fast and as others have pointed out no good if not water proof, I'm a heavy person so also couldn't see it lasting long at all
