Do You Buy Teacher a Christmas Present

Ask a Question

All the children appear to at my boys school but I was talking to people at work who never do. They live in next town but don't think that would matter. I'm talking about primary school

I remember when I was at school, I used to buy them something. I don’t believe people should feel pressured to if some do , some don’t.

LL81 I never did when I was in school. Yes I do feel pressure not from teachers but kids want to because they see class mates doing it

Imnotcheap happy days you’re sorted then, definitely not when they go to secondary school. Thinking about it only gave a present at end of year as you got new teacher not Christmas.

lauren958 I know it's not teachers it's other parents and kids that make you feel pressure. The teachers are always greatful

Imnotcheap No one should be pressured to do something they don't want to do. If you like to give a gift to a teacher fine, if not it's also good. People will always talk no matter what you do.

SebK84 I totally agree with that. My thought is usually you can never please "other people " so only worry about important individuals in your life. It does go without saying that I also never deliberately offend others. When it involves my kids however everything changes

I'm a teacher, we don't need anything. A handmade Christmas card was always my favourite item to get. Saying that I'm not sure whether to get my sons teacher a gift or not. He has 2 teachers so would need to buy 2.

MrsCraig when I've given presents teachers have been grateful think part of it is not wanting your child yo be the only one not giving presents

Imnotcheap I can completely understand that. You see everyone else giving something and then feel guilty that you didn't get anything. It is definitely a tough one.

MrsCraig it doesn't help that you don't know what they like so it's guess work

Imnotcheap I know, that's the other reason I'm reluctant to do it. I had thought about getting something for the classroom.

Only for primary school. Once in secondary no it's too much unless the teacher has gone over and above.

Just something small like a candle but was relieved when one Mum offered to do a collection and buy a gift card.

Pjran a collection would be ideal especially if someone who knew teacher well enough to get something actually wanted

I remember when a box of chocolates was enough, Now we have Facebook groups asking for £15 from each parent to buy teachers presents, we don't buy presents for teachers who think bullying is ok or do nothing about it, I'd bend over backwards for a good teacher, unfortunately there is non in my daughters school , after Christmas we are looking for a new school

Imnotcheap the story of the chat was buying them pandora bracelets ect... Not a chance I'm contributing to that, and I don't think teachers should be excepting expensive gifts like this

martinlufc5637 that's ridiculous. The teacher might not even like wearing them and if they did not at school. I bet the teacher would have felt embarrassed to receive a gift like that
