Do You Buy Used Clothes?
Ask a Question
If I buy, it's via Vinted where I see what it looks like, the size, and etc. And when I have it, I just wash it.
I get why some people don't like it (someone else wore it), but it ain't like it's underwear.
I rarely buy clothes so it's just a few for certain occasions.
I have bought from charity shops for years and have never had issues. I prefer new items, but sometimes I find the older stuff, usually vintage, have lasted the test of time. New clothes are not made as well and not built to last
I've had some jeans and jumpers from charity shops I just wash them first I'll admit I wouldn't have been seen dead in a charity shop till I worked in one and it did change my mind
Leannexxx ...Years ago all I did was drop stuff off to Charity Shops & scurry out of the door...
I got into looking around these shops when I was killing time between waiting for buses & was surprised how good the quality of some of the clothing was.
Bought some bargains for my daughter who loved purple, a purple denim Gap jacket, a few beautiful dresses, lots of tops , A Ted Baker Mac in like a silver grey..
I like to check the labels & look up who the designer is too...
Jackets and tops yes. I would buy skirts if I could find any I like. I won’t buy used trousers or shorts though, even if cleaned. I just think I’m fussy for hygiene as a lady. My nephew buys trousers though, probably ok for men.
I do buy second hand clothes but tbh i can buy brand new stuff in sales for around the same price or sometimes cheaper if i keep an eye out.
No I don't buy, them in most cases if you shop around use codes ect..you can get them cheap enough, plus vinted ect.. you don't know if they are fake brands
martinlufc5637 To be honest, I don't care about brands just as long as it looks good and is reliable.
Yes, mostly on ebay and charity shops. I went up a size ot 2 during lockdowns and don't want to buy lots of new clothes as I'd like to lose the weight, so buying second hand is a compromise
I have been buying some bits off Vinted lately and it's usually ok but bought a jacket that was covered in dog hairs and some hair straighteners that were listed as new, they certainly weren't new though. Usually ok on the whole .
Yes and trainers as long as they're in good clean condition although I do wash them myself once purchased also
Buying someone's unwanted items is sustainable and my experience has been pretty good on vinted. I also sell and use the money to buy. I don't understand the hygiene issue at all - those same people try on clothes in shops which other people have tried on
I buy a lot of second hand clothes, especially for our son. I get them on fb or charity shops. I buy Bundles as works out cheaper than buying single items. I don't like Vinted, had a few bad experiences so steer clear now.
Yes as a plus size lady it is not easy or cheep to find nice clothes but some time the 2nd hand ones are the best way to get a bargain
I’m not overly keen as some people are curvier than others (regardless of size), and clothes are sometimes stretched/moulded to the original persons size/frame
Only outer wear, if described as 'worn once' or similar and has to be good quality material. I always check thoroughly and wash/sanitise before wearing.
Yes I buy 2nd hand clothes. Nothing wrong with it. It's good for the environment and the wallet
I do. I’m always looking in charity shops for stuff I can find, never know what bargains you could get
I rarely buy new clothes if I can help it. Apart from underwear almost everything is second-hand from charity shops. The only issues I have is that many of them have limited choices for men so it can be a bit pot luck that I actually find what I am after, but I usually just go browsing so just buy what I fancy. Just dont see the point in buying new at all!
Quite often yeah. If got some lovely bits in my wardrobe from ginger & charity shops. I draw the line at second hand footwear tho. I just can't!
I have purchased just a couple of items off eBay. Never worn either of them. One was new not worn I got as a coverup for holiday, barely wore anything I took with me.. typical!
Oh absolutely! I love a bargain, charity shops, Vinted, eBay, even car boot sales (at least you can see the quality in person) I also sell some if I don't wear them or even give them away via Facebook or the OLIO app. I tend to wear my clothes until they fall apart of are so discoloured that they look filthy and then I really need to let go
Luckily I haven't had many issues with Vinted when buying or selling, but I feel the buyer protection is just a selling/buying fee, I've seen some awful stories being in some Vinted groups. So I was leaning more towards using eBay now that they fees have gone/reduced.
I'm easily pleased though... good condition, comfy to wear, I'm happy wearing it and it helps someone out, of course I'll buy it. I'm not one for brands and I hate to think of businesses making so much money from the very poor countries but if someone is selling it secondhand and it will only get thrown away anyway, I'd be more likely to buy it secondhand, although I do try not to.
DeBunny I sell games on Vinted and haven't had issues so far as a seller, but as a buyer I received a console that's become faulty due to the transportation and it was working before, so have to send it back. It's a shame it happened.
PhilipMarc I'm glad it sounds like it was resolved quite well though.
I had an item completely smashed, just thrown in a bag, not even a jiffy bag and the seller refunded me instantly as I told them. But I've heard there are so many scammers on there and Vinted tend to side with them. I guess cus they know what they need to say and they've been scamming for years. Good to know though. Ooooh now I'm wondering what types of games.. Xbox, PS, Nintendo.. you've piqued my interest
DeBunny Oh yeah, I encountered two scammers who were supposedly selling PS5s.
1) One sent me a medium sized box with junk that made it feel heavy.
2) Another sent a bag with literally nothing inside.
I got money back from both and they were banned from the platform.
I did managed to buy a real PS5 on Vinted for £260 in excellent condition and I really don't want to sell it, but I'm afraid my future wife is gonna make me do it.
My wife does all the time, expeccially for christmas gifts, clothes as a lot of the clothes are hardly worn.
I never used to now I think I was a snob because the money I’ve saved on perfectly good items is crazy. Vinted I use but I love charity shops the cheaper clothes the nicer bags I can afford lol
I do buy second hand from Vinted and also sell on there too.
I’ve had some great Barbour jackets off Vinted that would otherwise cost me a fortune to purchase new.
I buy the majority of my clothes from charity shops I love them. All my kids clothes are bought new though.
I think it’s a great idea to buy used clothes, they can be of good quality, maybe even new at a much cheaper price than high street shops, nothing wrong about this
