Do You Buy Warranties with New Appliances?
Ask a Question
We have just bought an identical kettle to the previous one we had because we like the style and colour. Unfortunately the old one went wrong by never clicking off the boil. Thing is we never buy warranty because this didn’t go wrong until AFTER the 2 years it would have been anyway and invalid. So again didn’t buy with the new. We paid via nectar points and we were ok as £25 but the Argos man told us anything over £50 paid via nectar requires personal ID now! Is this because of the fraud issue I’ve heard about that seems to happen mostly in London?
No , I would never consider paying for an "extended warranty " although I have bought from John Lewis and Richer Sounds because of the free extended warranty (and price match ) .
Otherwise I "self insure" , instead of paying for a warranty put the money in a savings account you will soon build up enough to replace the item in the unlikely event it fails . On top of which extended warranties are a rip off which is why retailers always try to sell you one (or do they get a ridiculous commission ?) .
By the way you were probably unlucky with your kettle , I have 2 (normal and a Breville one cup ) used daily that are well over 10 years old with no problem .
I have never bought an extended warranty. My thinking is that if something is going to go wrong with the item, it will do in the first year
