Do You Buy Yellow Sticker Meat/fish?
Ask a Question
So, I will happily buy yellow sticker meat and fish to freeze and use as later I am on a very tight budget despite working full time. I have 2 teenagers that are both growing like weeds and my husband eats a fair portion too so knocked down meat helps the pennies go further.
My friend thinks is disgusting, she will buy fruit and veg and tins or packets that are stickered but not meat or fish.
Do you have preferences on what you will buy at reduced prices? Is there a reason for them?
I'd be interested to know.
Yep. If you time it right you can save a lot and there’s nothing wrong with them either especially if you were planning to cook something on the same day or do a batch and freeze for later
Anything i can get my hands on that is a yellow sticker i will including meat and fish to freeze. yellow stickers are a huge help and i have no idea why some people look down on them. they are a real helping hand in my opinion. Have you tried the Too Good To Go app? Where you why a random bag full of yellow sticker stuff - well worth it. And Olio where you get free food in your area.
Excuse me but your friend must have more money than sense. They wouldn't sell harmful products and if bought on last day would still be ok so freezing is sensible. Continue your thrifty purchases just don't mention to your friend
I buy yellow sticker fresh meat and fish they are fine to freeze on the day of purchase. You can get some real bargains. If I know it's something we would eat, I buy most things reduced. But try to avoid cakes but only because of the calories
I don’t tend to but if I was planning to eat it that night anyway and something I liked I would. Usually though I leave it for others as I’m not struggling as much as some. I still have to watch my spend though. I often buy frozen goods that work out cheaper anyway.
I start my shop at the reduced section and go from there although it has to be a decent reduction. I also use it as a way of trying new products as if you don’t like them, it doesn’t matter so much. I freeze on the day of purchase and never had any problems. You have to save money where you can to pay for other things or so you can treat yourself. If your friend doesn’t buy them leaves more for everyone else
I buy yellow sticker fresh fish and meat and either marinate them to cook the next day or freeze them. Not a fan of Asda or Tesco fresh fish or meat so I don't shop for reductions from them.
I'll buy any reduced products, as long as I know we'll use them. It's a fab way to keep costs down.
PinkyMerrick - I agree with your friend regarding yellow sticker meat and fish. I wouldn't buy it in a million years. I only buy cakes, desserts, bread, salad, sandwiches to be eaten on the same day. The reduced food has been around long enough and the use by date indicate this.
As long as my family will eat it then I will buy it. I buy loads of yelliw sticker stuff (although it's orange stickers where I shop). I will buy it and freeze it. Helps to save money and reduce waste. I love a yellow sticker.
I'll buy most reduced things as long as it still looks fresh, the packaging is intact and it's within the best before date. I buy to freeze or eat on the day. Prefer to buy things I eat often (vegetables) and things that are more expensive (meat/fish).
I do and I freeze but also depends what it is and how much money is off it . Some of the flavoured meat is expensive and even reduced isn't a bargain .
Yeah always look there first on a shop, most stuff freezes pretty well so just buy it and put it straight in there. There is the odd thing I wouldn’t buy but that’s usually items that don’t pass the eye test.
Yes but it tends to be the more expensive items that have not sold, sometimes better to go for a fresher cheaper option.
Always buying yellow sticker meat and fish and freezer it northing is up with doing this and it helps save money and food waste
I have purchased yellow sticker foods for years. I have issue with meat and fish as long as you can freeze it. I am careful when choosing fruit. I purchased some yellow sticker strawberries the other day, the whole lot went of the following day.
I don't normally buy yellow sticks only because I never find them but yesterday I went to my local Tesco got found some yay got some chicken wings buffalo one have to say they was lovely
Sometimes the meat being a bit older is more tender than it would have been a couple of days earlier. Remember the best steak has been hung for weeks until it's ready
Only if I'm going to use it straight away, my hubby has IBS and other stomach complaints so have to be a little bit carefull, but I buy reduced veg alot, cot a bag of carrots for 18p the other day, blanched them and put them in freezer ready for soups and stews
