Are You Buying Advent Calendars This Year?
Ask a Question
I've seen a few advent calendar in shops and I've been shocked at prices it's making me think twice if my kids really care that much. Are you still getting them
I haven't looked at them yet, too early. What hasn't gone up in price. My daughter is 38, and I still buy her an advent calendar, I probably always will. I usually just get one of the cheap ones.
No. They’re not worth it, unless you buy them in the sale and use them next year. Or you can make a personalised one
hspexy I did look at getting ones I can make up for my kids but the wooden parts was expensive. Especially as my kids like chocolate ones
My partner has got a Advent calendar for daughte r& I to share for the last 2 years as part of our Christmas presents, we had the Debenhams one two years ago & last year we had the Boots one...
I bought my partner a lovely Chocolate Liqueurs one for last two years which he enjoyed..
It’s crazy damn expensive! Pfft never have I gotten one like why bother just open a door each day for a tiny piece?!
It’s better to buy chocolates as gifts instead that are much bigger in size and has lots of different flavours! Keep a look out on offers in supermarkets or better yet go to Aldi to buy them!
Imnotcheap there’s so many different kinds of sweets and chocolates that are good to have in a gift hamper that you can give instead! Haribo are delicious
My two sons are quite older now but I still get one for my 16 year old, don't know why but it's just something he's always had. My other son has never bothered with them
Yes we still get them for the youngest, nothing special, just the ones with a chocolate a day, normally a £1/£1.50, but I'm guessing with most stores ripping us off, they'll be a tenner now lol
martinlufc5637 if you find one for a pound let me know where. Getting closer to that £10 all the time
Imnotcheap Asda are doing them for £2, just the normal peel back and get a chocolate, my kids have always like these kind of calendars
I haven’t purchased advert calendars for years. When my children became adults I got them a bar of chocolate instead, so much cheaper and they were happy.
eyeballkerry when I became an adult I asked my mum to fo that. She decided not to buy either
Imnotcheap Oh that’s sad. I do believe the advent calendars are a real rip off. I remember calendars before chocolate was in them, we were happy just opening a door and see a Christmas picture.
I probably won’t bother even though i do like opening the window each day. They are usually a rip off. I got my mum a bonne maman one though which i know she will love.
Bought 2 for my daughter and grandson yesterday but price was nearly double what I paid last year
rogersjoanne32 I find increase ridiculous if it keeps going up will stop buying and give something elsw
I think I will be, I always get the lint one, used to be £5 but seen for £7 this year. It’s not the lindor one as more but like the one which is blue. Has little lindor and normal choice but 25th get a Santa.
Always have Always will, for kids though, other half save his til Christmas eve then scoffs the lot. This year though, I've decided to treat myself aswell. Never had one before, I'm quite excited
coupons12a I sometimes buy one for me and OH with our kids really not sure mainly as I always worry about managing to get all presents
I probably will get one for my mum. Some in B&M seemed a good price. I normally get myself one but not chocolate. Either stationery or one with body wash ex.
I make my own and wrap small things up. Some are samples and some are chocolates. It’s quite time consuming but they all love it so it’s worth the effort.
Imnotcheap No I do bouquet ones. I have loads of bouquets boxes and need to use them up. I wrap them in Christmas paper to coord with the colour of the box and then write the numbers on them.
Imnotcheap I don’t know where I have seen it but someone used toilet rolls and stacked them up.
I have a refillable advent calendar, just buy whatever you like to fill the pockets, eg a tub of celebrations for £4 that will fill my pockets for 2 people, 23 days then maybe put something a little special in day 24. cheaper than buy 2 advent calendars.
JulieMullins ..We also have a refillable Advent Calendar, bought for £5 from Sheffield city centre around 20+ years ago for our daughter who turned 26 last month.
JulieMullins I looked in to that but buying enough would be a bit expensive though first year
Imnotcheap ..I know! The Advent Calendar was of a penguin skiing down a slope, it had big pockets in at one side & was the scroll type, with wooden rods at each end with a round ball at each end of the rod.
That Advent Calendar has a place in our home every Christmas & has been filled with all sorts of small gifts & all kinds of chocolates over the last 20+ years...
I do my own, buy small gifts off Temu/ Aliexpress mainly (I do this from about July onwards - Aliexpress have had bundle deals, with an offer of £1.50 off and small things like bracelets from 62p). I have reusable advent calendars. I do the same with crackers, find a nice selection of crackers that are cheap but look good, undo one end (usually a ribbon) carefully and replace the little bit of plastic goods, seen some in QD, £6.99, large, look great. By the time I put a decent gift in ( I got some small pocket watches for £1.29 each of Shein in the summer, for example) they will be better than the really pricey ones and I work out that all in all the gift averages about 75p, so much cheaper than them as well. I do it every year and it is well received.
msjn these day the stuff in crackers is terrible hard to get anything people would look at twice
Consumer I find that the stuff inside isn't that good often. You never know if people would like it either as can't see
Yes, we will still be getting them. I got my son a dairy milk one that was £2. I’m quite happy with that. But some are seriously expensive
possy that's my favourite thing to do. Buy little late for discount same with wrapping paper ect.
