Are You Buying Advent Calendars This Year?
Ask a Question
I've seen a few advent calendar in shops and I've been shocked at prices it's making me think twice if my kids really care that much. Are you still getting them
I probably will get one for my mum. Some in B&M seemed a good price. I normally get myself one but not chocolate. Either stationery or one with body wash ex.
I make my own and wrap small things up. Some are samples and some are chocolates. It’s quite time consuming but they all love it so it’s worth the effort.
Imnotcheap No I do bouquet ones. I have loads of bouquets boxes and need to use them up. I wrap them in Christmas paper to coord with the colour of the box and then write the numbers on them.
Imnotcheap I don’t know where I have seen it but someone used toilet rolls and stacked them up.
I have a refillable advent calendar, just buy whatever you like to fill the pockets, eg a tub of celebrations for £4 that will fill my pockets for 2 people, 23 days then maybe put something a little special in day 24. cheaper than buy 2 advent calendars.
JulieMullins ..We also have a refillable Advent Calendar, bought for £5 from Sheffield city centre around 20+ years ago for our daughter who turned 26 last month.
JulieMullins I looked in to that but buying enough would be a bit expensive though first year
Imnotcheap ..I know! The Advent Calendar was of a penguin skiing down a slope, it had big pockets in at one side & was the scroll type, with wooden rods at each end with a round ball at each end of the rod.
That Advent Calendar has a place in our home every Christmas & has been filled with all sorts of small gifts & all kinds of chocolates over the last 20+ years...
I do my own, buy small gifts off Temu/ Aliexpress mainly (I do this from about July onwards - Aliexpress have had bundle deals, with an offer of £1.50 off and small things like bracelets from 62p). I have reusable advent calendars. I do the same with crackers, find a nice selection of crackers that are cheap but look good, undo one end (usually a ribbon) carefully and replace the little bit of plastic goods, seen some in QD, £6.99, large, look great. By the time I put a decent gift in ( I got some small pocket watches for £1.29 each of Shein in the summer, for example) they will be better than the really pricey ones and I work out that all in all the gift averages about 75p, so much cheaper than them as well. I do it every year and it is well received.
msjn these day the stuff in crackers is terrible hard to get anything people would look at twice
Consumer I find that the stuff inside isn't that good often. You never know if people would like it either as can't see
Yes, we will still be getting them. I got my son a dairy milk one that was £2. I’m quite happy with that. But some are seriously expensive
possy that's my favourite thing to do. Buy little late for discount same with wrapping paper ect.
Imnotcheap I got loads of wrapping paper one year when it was reduced, I’m sure it was 9p a roll. And I’m still using it yet
I have an advent garland with 24 numbered pockets that will hold a couple of chocolates, it’s great.
Already got the man child and teenager theirs. Not got mine yet but yes they are expensive and I've noticed advent calendar are more fancy
Biggest waste of money - better off buying the chocolate equivalent without all the unnecessary packaging
Now for something different! Last January I bought a job lot of Advent Calendars for cats which I have just donated to my local cat sanctuary. They will be offered for sale at the next fundraising market at the beginning of December.Just think how the cat's eyes will light up when each window is opened!
SueWard......
Our Phoenix's eyes would definitely light up if the Advent Cat Calendar's contained lots of lovely edible treats..

...
Phoenix's sister Naughty Torti Topaz loves an Advent Calendar, she usually tries to drag our's down so she can see what's inside!
We will be buying just some of the cheap ones for children as they do look forward to these.
Yep I get them for all 4 of my sons ranging from ages 27 to 7 and my 2 year old grandson and my fiance and get my dad and his girlfriend one as well. I also get all the kids Christmas bedding which they get with the calendars I always will as its all part of our tradition and adds to the excitement for us
emmabeckz that sounds great unfortunately I'm on minimum wage so can't manage that for my 3 kids
Imnotcheap I get the deals off here and buy at Asda George for the bedding with extra 10% off £40 spend only cheap chocolate advent calendars usually £1.50 from Tesco or Morrisons
Imnotcheap you should pick the bedding up in the sales after Christmas you get some really cheap ones huni
kate1310 I do like buying stuff after Christmas got my sons nice sonic bedding after Halloween last year
Imnotcheap that's what I do for the grankids try get some good deals as my daughter struggles I know how hard it is when the kids are small, so I try to help
They are silly now with all the Lego etc and that could be another couple of gifts and if you have more than 1 it’s tough to treat them the same and kids are alright with chocolate ones but I think it’s a case of shopping around for nicer chocolate and then ones aimed at adults I’ve never understood personally and they say they’re worth so much but it’s not and after ill health last year amd long stay in hospital I want to buy some stuff for people who will be in hospital instead of a lot of the “stuff” that goes with the run up to Christmas things like fluffy socks and mini hand creams with a hand written card to wish them well
rl4521 I bought one with small toys one year for my daughter as part of Christmas present but got three kids would be too expensive chocolate will do this year
I forgot last year and felt awful, our son didn't even notice! I just buy the really cheap ones for a £1 or £1.50. I sometimes get them after the 1st December as they are reduced.
MrsCraig I found some in poundland for a £1 today so probably get those after payday
kate1310 I'm going to find some £1 after payday one each for kids, 1 for me and partner too
Imnotcheap the kids are happy getting a £1 one so is the adults that's the ones I buy for the kids
AlcioneTD I seen a deal on here for galaxy advent calendar £2.50 but there 5 of us
No. I gave up on advent calendars as gifts years ago. It’s got so ridiculous. Christmas is expensive enough
