Cadburys Products Shrinking?
Other
I have just noticed a couple of products that are definitely shrinking. My relatives just bought some chocolate fingers but on opening them the fingers were only 3 quarters full on inside packaging. A multi pack of fudges look half the size they used to be! The size of 2 individual quality street ones. Of course price is either the same or more for much less.
This happened a few years ago to be quite honest. Yes they have become smaller. They are now 114g. They used to be 125g back In 2015. 7% less due to Cocca Butter Increase so they say but the price has Increased too like everything else nowadays. That Is the equivalent to two less fingers In each pack. Most Chocolate these days Is like eating a Fun Bar If you buy the multipacks. Not like back In the day where It was plentiful.
Cadburys were taken over by a US company a few years ago and they closed many factories moved production abroad and also started a lot of shrinkflation across the products which I guess was all to finance the purchase of Cadburys and increase their margins. I rarely buy Cadbury's products nowadays as very poor value. I'd suggest trying some of supermarkets own brand products they can be a lot cheaper, as good if not better quality sometimes and be a lot more ethical purchases.
BonzoBanana and JLouM - agreed! Cadburys doesn't taste anything like the way it used to -I know not much confectionery does, thanks to higher use of cheaper ingredients and padding out with sugar, but it was particularly disappointing with Cadburys after all the promises Kraft made when they took it over.
goods are costing more to make, ingredients costs are going up, so everyone has a choice - put the overall cost up or shrink the size to save money, or usually a bit of both. At the end of the days its just how it is.
That’s a right rip off! Paying that much money but getting less chocolates
What I do is I buy the ones by the supermarkets own brands lol milk chocolate tastes good if not better compared to branded ones
But it depends if you like the taste of them and how sweet you like them to be!
And I don’t usually pay the original price for chocolates as I buy them when they are on price reduction offer haha with a good long expiration date though there’s no harm eating foods if they still look and taste good
Not surprised.
I'm not a fan of Cadbury chocolate so not too bothered by it. I was more disappointed the creamy egg chocolates left me underwhelmed as I read they were soooo good.
Chocolate/chocolates have been shrinking in quantity for a while now but going up in price. My friend quite likes a box of Black Magic and I was paying £3.99 in B & M but noticed a couple of weeks ago it had gone up to £5.49 and Sainsburys £8.00, also noticed the hike on other boxes of chocolates too. I will just buy when on offer now.
Yep definitely shrinking in size I have 2 have 2 chocolates in the night not 1 like I used to have just not pulling the punch anymore
One of the excuses used by companies was that they were reducing pack sizes in line with government advice that people should limit their sugar intake. They did that, but their prices stayed the same. Bars have got that small now that people are just eating 2 instead of 1 and probably increasing their sugar intake overall.
I don't eat Cadbury chocolate very often because it's so low grade.
I think Cadburys chocolate has taken a turn for the worse in many ways as I believe that not only have the the bars reduced in size whilst the price remains the same (or in some cases they have increased) the recipe has also changed and they are far too sweet now. I suspect that Mondelez International are making a big mistake expecting the public to continue buying the cadbury chocolate when they change the recipe - I rarely buy it these days but used to love it years ago.
I don’t think it’s just Cadburys that’s guilty of this, it’s all chocolate bar manufacturers. Yes I know we’re in cost of living crisis at minute but chocolate bars have been getting smaller for years now - long before this crisis started and now they’re just increasing in price every time I go shopping. I like to buy few different multi packs when I do my main shop for treats for the grandkids but with prices constantly rising they’ll be getting less choice
We’re ripped off left, right and centre in so many ways… at least smaller sizes mean we’ll put less weight on I suppose
Stopped buying Cadburys after they started shrinking. Give me Galaxy any day.... until they start selling fun bars as giant bars!
Short answer - yes. Long answer - yes but they're all at it.
Since Kraft took over Cadbury and offshored everything they could get away with it's been particularly rife there (notwithstanding what they've done to Creme Eggs).
Just for example; I'm a fan of Wispa bars. Over not that long a time, the individual Wispa bars have shrunk, and the multi packs have shrunk from 5 bars to 4 (or 10 bars to 9 for the bigger multi packs) too, with the smaller size bars. What hasn't shrunk - the price.
They absolutely are shrinking. I remember when a Mars was almost size of large hand, now its size of a little finger thats if your lucky, yet they still charge the hiked up prices. In my local corner shop it costs 98p for the tiny dairy milk im talking about 5 squares!
I'm tired of products shrinking. Whilst it makes them appear to still be affordable, it's wrong to do that when consumers want the full sized products they're expecting. On one hand, making bars of chocolate smaller is an attempt to reduce public health problems - so I believe they say - but ultimately, they should make it very clear that the product is now a smaller size and make the packaging proportionately smaller too. The ever decreasing size of tubs of chocolates is really annoying. I know they still want supermarkets to sell more by offering them for £5 on offer, but I'd prefer them to just put the price up and keep the big tubs so you can reuse them for a cake!
williamslf58 No that was just a category to list under. It was more of a statement that Cadbury is really noticeable.
They started shrinking all the Cadbury product, (like most companies), one of the first if not the first, to do so, and gradually reduced the size/weight, including the tubs/tins of sweets normally sold around Christmas time, every year since, but the prices have stayed the same, and even increased. Cadbury chocolate is nowhere near as good as it used to be since, first Kraft them Mondelez took the company over, they changed the recipe, and now their chocolate does not taste as nice. I have migrated to "galaxy" chocolate.
kevanstewart I agree. I’m not that keen on Cadbury chocolate either. It’s definitely not the same as it was. I prefer dark chocolate anyway myself. More chocolate!
JLouM ...Dark Chocolate is supposed to be better for you, daughter & I have always preferred Dark to Milk, only White Chocolate we have eaten & enjoyed was Lindor..
We eat a few squares every day .

Sadly, this has been going on for years. This way, less customers will notice/complain than if they raised the price
It's funny that my husband and I were only talking about this the other night. Cadbury has to be 1 of the worst for shrinking all their chocolate bars. They were 3 times the size when I was a teenager.
The supermarket chocolate bars are often as nice if not nicer plus are more ethically sourced nowadays. Certainly you wouldn't buy anything from Nestle if you were aware of how they have treated people in Africa. These huge international companies like Nestle, Kraft and Mars probably shouldn't be supported. Admittedly with regard Mars its more about their pet food and the high instances of cancers its causes in pets.
BonzoBanana I’ve not heard about pet food. I tried a Morrisons 89p chocolate bar and it was ok, it wasn’t awful but definitely inferior. After a few squares the taste isn’t nice any more. So I have tried.
ALL confectionery products are getting drastically smaller and the prices getting increasingly higher.
Companies want to make more PROFIT and they know that the consumers WILL JUST pay the HIGHER PRICES.
I, like MANY others DON'T BUY branded products anymore, the OWN OR CONTINENTAL BRANDS offered by Aldi and Lidl ARE MUCH CHEAPER AND THE QUALITY IS MUCH BETTER.
WHY PAY OVER £1.50, for a BRAND NAME, WHEN YOU CAN BUY A OWN BRAND FOR 49p OR A CONTINENTAL BRAND for 99p.
It's a no brainer, then the branded companies STOP producing certain chocolate bars because they are NOT selling, simple solution is to make YOUR PRODUCTS MORE COST EFFECTIVE TO THE CONSUMERS.
This seems to happen every few years, it is annoying but then when seem to get used to it and the new size becomes the norm
Yep, that’s where it’s going cabinets for you cause I’m trying to reduce waste less packaging, said the environment friendly
Yeh I think the cream egg has shank which isn’t a bad thing as the original had 40g of sugar!!
SaveMeSunday They are extremely sweet. A bit sickly really so maybe not such a bad thing there.
