Would You Change Your Name for a Free Lunch for Life ?
Ask a Question
We all like doing competitions but is this one going a bit too far ?
Subway in the USA are offering free meals for life to someone in the U.S who is willing to change their first name to , you guessed it , 'Subway'
The actual prize is $50,000 for unlimited subs and drinks from the restaurant.
You just sign up at subwaynamechange.com/ between August 1 and August 4 and they will pick a winner
They even cover the winner’s $750 legal fees for the name change
You then have 4 months to prove you have changed your name
It could have been worse if another company was offering it , imagine having a first name like KFC , or Wendys' ,unless your first name was Wendy of course, Taco Bell or Starbucks, McDonalds isn't too bad if you are Scottish
If a Subway offered this prize here would you enter it ?
I don't see how it benefits the company other than for the initial marketing coverage as there will only be one person called Subway and he or she can only meet so many people per day to 'spread the word'.
No, I wouldn't do it no matter what the cash prize was
tumblespots It would be a problem if someone asked you where can i find a subway and you said 'here'
Haha this is crazy but I would be tempted lol just cuz you change it legally doesn’t mean you can’t change it again in 6 months
SaveMeSunday I bet there is a clause saying you can't S , there is no such thing as a free lunch, unless you keep the name change
I'd definitely do it. I'd still call myself my normal name but on paperwork it would show 'Subway Wilson'. For free Subways for a huge number of years its got to be worth it. I'd probably end up feeding the bread to the birds and just concentrating on eating the salad and meat etc after a while. It would save me a huge amount of money which I could pay off my mortgage. If it was a £15 saving a week. That's £800 extra off the mortgage etc a year. £4000 over 5 years.
BonzoBanana I totally agree with you. I would enter the competition if I was in America but the chances of winning are going to be very slim
eyeballkerry Yes definitely slim chance of winning and slim chance of remaining slim if you do. It's just a fun competition for marketing purposes but the prize is soo huge just like the final weight of the winner after enjoying the prize.
BonzoBanana You beat me to it B, i thought the same about the "slim" chance
But as you say you can just eat the fillings, and it is anything off the menu including all drinks , so a good saving on your weekly food and drinks bill
Depending on age and appetite I don’t think $50000 worth of subway would last a lifetime.
I’m not the biggest fan of subway but for unlimited subs for life i would defo change my name.
Leannexxx They have plenty of choice, wraps as well as torpedos L and healthy salads , the breakfast rolls are good too , i think i could survive eating their food
No way. I detest the smell of Subway when I walk past it. . I wouldn’t do it anyway whatever the prize. If anything I suppose Ivy would be ok.
JLouM An interesting fact about them here J
Why is it called Subway?
Did you know that the name “SUBWAY” comes from the word “submarine,” which means underwater vessel? If you observe closely, the sandwiches sold at SUBWAY have a shape similar to a submarine, and the name of the first branch of SUBWAY was “Pete's Submarines,” which had the characteristic shape of the submarine
CallumFlowers I think the owner Fred DeLuca should lead by example and change his name to Subway DeLuca
Who is owner of Subway?
Subway (restaurant) - Wikipedia
Fred DeLuca
Subway is an American multinational fast food restaurant franchise that specializes in submarine sandwiches (subs), wraps, salads and drinks. Subway was founded by Fred DeLuca and financed by Peter Buck in 1965 as Pete's Super Submarines in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
They had something similar in Taiwan where people changed their name to get free sushi - I think the government allows them to change their name for free up to 2 times in their lifetime, so they did it. I am sure they could afford the food, but everyone loves a freebie lol
I used to love the Jam , so one of my favourite tracks would be apt if i was called Subway , '' Going Underground ''
Think this will be more worthy if a homeless guy did it as all expenses are covered and he/she has a meal for life. USA has much bigger problems...
telmel Even so if he is born there I assume anyone can apply. But still lil unjust to erase someone who has very little to fall back on. Maybe add a middle name Subway. A free meal for life is not something I would apply for but would suggest to keep it open to those that really needs it. A free coffee for life is more my thing.
