Do Child Models End up with Eating Disorders?

Ask a Question

I watched a series lately that showed a mother pushing her daughter into modelling. The young girl definitely was model material, but by the end of the season (one year later), the young girl looked ill. It was obvious she had lost weight when she didn’t have any to lose.

Her mother (a retired model) said how proud she was of her daughter. I felt physically sick. I felt this was child abuse and that she should take her daughter to the doctor for help with a very clear eating disorder.

I think it happens more than people think P

Thin models are what people expect and perceive as normal , despite campaigns to promote oversize models , its the way society is social media does not help

But how do you know it was an eating disorder? What because she lost weight? She could actually just eat healthy and do some sort of exercise

Lots of teenagers develop anorexia for no apparent reason and they are not models.

I have experience of Anorexia / bulimia, was an awful experience, 4 stone and in hospital being tube fed.. if anyone is experiencing it with someone please don’t ignore it it’s so important. Can be so clever at hiding and denying it.

LL81 I agree with you on that I had bulimia but I don't think just because someone is so slim they have a eating disorder my brother is 5'9 and weighs 7 stone and it's nothing to do with a eating disorder as many people think he's got other health issues
