Christmas Breakfast?

Ask a Question

My daughter wants to come over to our home for a Christmas breakfast. We usually have cereal and toast so I’m after some ideas to posh it up a bit. Any suggestions greatly received.

I love having a bowl of trifle for breakfast Christmas Day. It’s the only time I do it but it’s a traditional now.

We will be having smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with a glass of Buck's Fizz if I'm back drinking booze

TheChimp A glass of Bucks Fizz is an excellent idea, although I don’t drink. But I could also get a selection of fruit juices. I was thinking of getting a selection of fruit as well.

eyeballkerry Yes, you could make up a fruit salad. Nice and refreshing to have first thing.

jms19 I really do not like smoked salmon but scrambled egg goes down well. I might just get a selection of egg, bacon, sausage etc.

Jerseydrew I was thinking about getting the croissants you get frozen and then cook them on the day. You can also get some danish pastries as well. At least nothing would get wasted.

eyeballkerry If you have an Aldi near you, they do really nice frozen pecan plaits and cinnamon swirls that you warm up in the air fryer/oven

Depends what your daughter likes and how much trouble you want to go to For us Christmas breakfast is usually cereal , toasted fresh cut bread or crumpets and breakfast rolls/muffins filled with bacon or sausage patties and eggs.

I usually have a mince pie so as to not to spoil my appetite for lunch but to give me a little sugar kick 🧁

When my kids were still at home - about age 10 - i started to do a plateful of sausage or bacon egg sandwiches etc and take them into the living room where they were trying on new clothes or makeup etc. this kept them out of the kitchen so I could cook in relative quiet lol

I found it very strange when I got with my partner and his family had breakfast on Christmas day 🤣

They had nurses in their house so they often worked Christmas day, this was the only chance they got to sit down as a family.

Whereas our household used to have to wait until 12-1pm for the 'main' dinner even though we'd get out of bed around 4am. The food we were told to eat was either open our selection boxes or eat chocolates quality street or similar. I thought that was 'normal' 😂

DeBunny This is the first time my daughter has asked to come for Christmas breakfast, this is why I am asking for suggestions. I could just ask her but was wanted more to surprise with something different.

eyeballkerry I'm glad you asked this question, I love seeing the responses.

I might steal some of the ideas from the responses myself, a Christmas breakfast bagel sounds lovely!

I just had an idea for something a little bit different. What about a similar to an afternoon tea type thing. So if they are into different types of food instead of having just one. Maybe mini omelettes with different toppings/fillings, almost like canapés, could make them in a cupcake style tray.

Could call it the bite size breakfast 🤭

Bacon and cheese. Salmon and herbs. Pepper and spinach...

Christmas is already a busy enough day. A few years ago I ordered a breakfast platter (delivered Christmas Eve). It had pancakes and fruit. it was a bit of a let down to be honest

Think I might be the only one who doesn’t have breakfast 😂 I just wait for the dinner and then snack on chocolate and biscuits later in the evening

Christmas morning I start munching all the stupid stuff like chocolates and cakes etc and then by 11am I realise the main meal is coming up and stop eating so I'll be hungry by the time that is ready which is somewhere around 2-3pm. If you want something filling for the start of Christmas day perhaps something very high protein like a Cheese omelette or something like that.

Iv never ever had or done a Christmas breakfast. I don't have breakfast usually anyways unless I'm away. If I was having guests tho I think I'd avoid meat, just due to the amount people will eat at dinner. I'd keep it light maybes eggs benedick, or warm sweet croissants with fruit.

I’d ask her what she wants for breakfast, she’s obviously expecting something special. Either a mini fry up, or just poached eggs or scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon. It also depends on what time planning on eating Christmas Roast.

My in laws had a cup of tea in bed with a tot of whisky in the tea! Both were in the Forces during WW2 so a habit from those times to keep warm. A traditional fried breakfast then followed with a glass of sherry before lunch.
