Classic Movie One Liners
Other
There’s always something that reminds us of our favourite movie. It could be the first few notes of a song from the movie that takes you back in time to the first time you watched the movie . Some movies have classic lines that everyone connects to a movie . Here are a few examples: “no one puts Baby in a corner!” Or “I carried a watermelon “ both from Dirty Dancin’ . “Here’s looking at you, kid” from Casablanca.
What classic line always reminds you of a certain movie ? Let’s have some fun and share our classic one lines and remind ourselves of the best movies of all time.
tumblespots there are so many quotes from Casablanca “play it again Sam” and “out of all the gin joints in all the towns in the world she walks into mine”. You know I’ve never watched Casablanca but I know the quotes from it . Lol
Nickyhaslam77 I watch it quite often and he never actually says 'Play it again Sam'!
tumblespots yes I read somewhere that she didn’t say that but even though it’s clear she doesn’t say it people still search online “play it again Sam” . Does she say “play it Sam”?
blacklabrador the Italian job. It’s crazy how one line is recognised by all for a movie . Lol
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
My sons and I have watched this film more times than I can remember. Can't wait for Gladiator 2 in November.
"Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore" - The Wizard of Oz
"These aren't the droids you're looking for" - Star Wars Episode IV
When I hear the first few notes of “lose yourself “ from 8 Mile it immediately produces scenes from the film to race through my head. The classic “mums spaghetti “ line in lose yourself seems to conjure up images of Mums struggling to cook a hot meal for their kids . Did you know Eminem opened a restaurant in his Hometown of Detroit called “Mums Spaghetti “ and it’s a real success . It’s a basic spaghetti shop .
I once made a Christmas present for Mr T with about 50 strips of paper that has famous lines from films that we watch and he had to guess which films they were from. He found it great fun and so did I
tumblespots these kind of memories are wonderful. My mum says Christmas is for spending time with family. When we were children we would not be allowed out on Christmas Day (it was annoying some years if we wanted to test out our new bike or roller skates). But we would play games as a family, such a good time. My mum made up loads of games to keep us occupied and we would always have a board game or something that we could play as a whole family.
When we were travelling to the coast for our annual holiday to stop us from the “are we there yet?” questions she made up a game . We had to find the alphabet? Find each letter of the alphabet from A to Z within car number plates that we were passing. I can’t remember if any of us ever found the entire alphabet but it sure kept us occupied. Little things like that and the time you spent making the gift make it so much nicer than spending a fortune on an expensive piece of jewellery (just to show off to the Jones’s, as they say) that will probably never be worn, just sitting in the jewellery box waiting for that special occasion when it can be worn.
Having said that it reminded me of Christmas movies I had watched as a family and the classic lines . Here’s one “ every time a bell rings an angel gets it’s wings!”
Nickyhaslam77 Yes, we played the car number plate alphabet game too! (It was a long way to the grandparents)
It's a Wonderful Life! Another favourite of mine - we have quite a few Christmas DVD's but then we don't watch live TV.
tumblespots we watched A Christmas carol every year too . Family tradition and no matter how many times we watched it we never got tired of it . Then again you never tire of the classics! “Bah humbug!”
I would pick exactly the same as you. I am always saying the two lines you mentioned. My husband hasn’t seen the film so I’m always explaining.
"Your going to need a bigger boat" Jaws, I've lost count of the amount of times I have watched this movie
martinlufc5637 another great movie that I’ve watched numerous times with my family when I was younger. It’s the music when Jaws is near that always got me on the edge of my seat. Lol
martinlufc5637 I was just thinking about the music that played when Jaws was about and like I said it would get me on the edge of my seat…..Until my Dad would say “I don’t know why everyone doesn’t get out the water when they hear that music ?!?!?!” Lol
Nickyhaslam77 the best films are those you can look back on with memories and with family memories, my mum would constantly ask questions or question everything lol
martinlufc5637 true I always remember Christmas watching every version of A Christmas Carol because my mom loves it and wanted us to see the meaning of Christmas and then when she first got it’s a wonderful life for us to watch and we didn’t want to watch it but it became our favourite
“Show me the money “ one of my favourite films I just said it to my tv and the film came up. You have to watch if not already.. starring Tom cruise and Renee Zellwegger. (1996 )
Oh yes, from the disney film Aristocats who could ever forget..........'And a rinky dinky doo' lol. I still have a big stupid grin on my face when I think of it today and I'm not getting any younger LOL
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses". "Hit it".
tumblespots Indeed 1 of my favourite films cant resist watching it yet again when it comes up on the TV
I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal
Ladies and gentlemen. I'm not a politician. I'm a businessman with a sense of history. And I'm also a Londoner, and today is a day of great historical significance for London. Our country is not an island anymore. We're a leading European state
“Life is like a box of chocolates, u never know what you’re going to get” and “stupid is as stupid does”
chele44 I love the line “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get “ . There are so many classics lines from movies that can be used in daily life
Pinkspirit yes I love that line . Do you know that when Richard Gere slammed the jewellery box closed and Julia Roberts burst out laughing it wasn’t actually written into the film , it was a joke to get her attention as she had been a little tired that day but the producer loved it so much it was kept in . Little film trivia
Scarface, " Say Hello To My Little Friend" great film, Al Pacino hasn't gone a bad film yet
tumblespots I didn’t recognise this one , sorry but I typed the line into search engine and it came up straight away as “Cool Hand Luke”
tumblespots This one is the scary line from The Shining which I saw many years ago and have never watched since!
tumblespots when harry met sally classic lol . I’ll have what she’s having too lol
Glitterandgold you don’t have to worry , that’s like telling water not to be wet!
Taken lol
Glitterandgold when I first added this chat topic I didn’t actually realise how many classic lines from movies there are . Maybe we should have a look for classic lines from songs too , lol
