What Are Your Plans for the Coronation of King Charles?
Ask a Question
Anyone celebrating or watching the coronation of King Charles.
Any special plans or ideas for the special event.
I'll be watching the Coronation live on the TV because I love the royal family. And this is history, we knew the Queen would never live forever but it never crossed my mind that we'd also witness history with King Charles III. The dream for me would be to be in London on that weekend but I don't think that is likely to happen.
I will watch as it is a once in a lifetime event. I was still in mum's tum when Queen Elizabeth was crowned.
Lynibis The Coronation is not necessarily a once in a liftetime event for you Lyn. King Charles is several years older than you - so who knows?
This coronation will be a much smaller event than the late Queen's. I wonder if all the school children will get commemorative mugs etc.
davidstockport yes, you're right, I thought that after posting. It would be great to be around for William's coronation but wouldn't want Charles' to be shorter on my account
davidstockport Charles will only be crowned King once, so it is a once in a lifetime
vonnnie90 Good point... but if Charles lll decides he wants to be crowned King twice, as the first King Charles and King Charlesll were, there's nothing much anyone can do about it. In fact some Scots actually want it. Why kill the "Charles multiple crowning" family tradition.
Charles l was crowned for a second time in Scotland, about eight years after first being crowned in England. .
Then Charlesll was crowned for a second time in England about ten years after first being crowned in Scotland.
davidstockport Interesting. But Charles 111 will only be crowned for the first time once....
I will be keeping myself busy on that day and will glance at the newspaper coverage the next day.
Don’t get me wrong I’m glad as a nation we have a royal family but it’s going to cost us tax payers an extortionate amount which we just can’t afford.
Pjran The cost of the Coronation will probably be covered several times over by the boost to the economy from the tourism it creates. So it's unlikely to cost the taxpayer anything. Any troops (and many others) taking part won't cost anything - they would still be getting paid.
davidstockport I understand that more will travel to the coronation but doubt the treasury will recover the costs.
We will be watching it as it's such a big historical event. It will be interesting to see how they balance the celebration with the current economic issues and the strikes!
I can't imagine anything worse than sitting through that drivel, especially when I don't have any respect for him.
Not for me thanks. I’m sure even if I miss the event, it will be splashed across the papers for a week or so - couldn’t ignore it even if I tried
I don't think he is going to last long as king, he doesn't have great health. I think I read he has a heart condition somewhere. I'm not a fan of the monarchy but accept if the majority favour it then so be it although its not democracy unless there is a vote on it. I accept most people favour the monarchy. I'd personally like to shrink their duties and budget though. I don't have a tv license etc... so can't watch it unless I go to a different house that has a tv license. I don't cheat as I don't see the point as its extremely rare that there is anything on the BBC I want to watch and unfortunately the lack of TV license means I can't watch live broadcasts on any channel even itv or ch4. If I could watch I might watch a bit of it or I might just completely ignore it not sure.
They already said it's going to be about migrants and diversity, most likely something about Ukraine too. So basically nothing to do with this country!
Honestly, We will treat it like any day off. Take dog out somewhere for day, go for a bite to eat. Probably watch highlights.
I will be watching it. I'm going to plan meals so there is little prep. Soup & sandwiches etc
Absolutely nothing. I'm just so surprised that the country can afford to fork out for all that pomp and circumstance when there isn't anything to help everyday folk with, in the present appalling economic climate....
I won't be watching it tbh since queen past think royal family is unraveling and not as popular.
I’m going to be in Spain taking advantage of taking two weeks off work and only using 8 days of leave.
Will watch the highlights when I get back
We wont be watching it. We don't really follow the royals. But I understand why people what too. With it being a moment in history.
i hadnt even thought about this but would be a good excuse to have people over and a bit of a party
I will just do what I normally do. I might see a bit on the news, but certainly won't be watching it all day.
