Should We All Get the Coronation off Work?

It's not feasible for "everyone" to get the Coronation off work

- Can't go out for a meal, wouldn't be open

- Couldn't go to the pub, nobody working there

- Can't go bowling, cinema or play a round of golf as nobody working.

And more importantly, what if you're ill and need a doctor and they're all off celebrating? Or you need a policeman, fireman and are told the stations are closed for the weekend?

Well, we have the Monday off which is far more sensible. For those who don't work Saturday it will be two long weekends in a row.

I am working over the bank holiday weekend not just working in my daughters pub but also staying over to look after her three dogs while she is away.

I think people should be given the option as realistically some people may not want to lose out on wages or celebrate the Coronation.

My son works in hospitality so he’s expected to work all bank holidays.

And who will care for the old and the ill?

I think it should be a choice, I don't think any businesses should be forced to close for anything, as long as the staff are aware when they apply/join. Obviously certain workers don't always have a choice and usually work even on Christmas day, there are carers, hospital staff (porters, cleaners, nurses, doctors, security and others) Those in the forces, Emergency services (Fire brigade, Ambulance, Police and even Lifeboat and rescues)

I'd imagine the coronation will be big working days for kitchen and catering, waitresses and bar tenders too.

It might be a nightmare for anyone working nights, as there will be street parties all over the UK, some get used to sleeping with minimal day to day noise but these would likely be louder and more disturbance for them.

Should be like Xmas and only essential workers. Not including shops. They are essential but we can live without a supermarket for a day. If restaurant wants to open it should be that workers are given the option to work with time off lieu or double pay.
