Crew of Titan Sub Dead after Catastrophic Implosion

In the News

I believe that most of you were following the news about this search in the Titanic area.

Tail cone of Titan sub found - US Coast Guard

Rear Admiral John Mauger says this morning an ROV from the vessel Horizon Artic found the tail cone of the Titan submersible approximately 1600ft from the bow of the Titanic wreck.

And they found additional debris, which is consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.

They immediately notified families.

It's very sad. I hope the family find peace and get some answers as to what happened.

Midnightflower It's already known why.

Man, what cheapskates couldn't even afford a $60 controller. lol

But on a serious note, RIP to the victims.

Sadly this was always likely to be the outcome.

May they all rest in peace.

I keep thinking about them. It's so sad but it did sound risky and unsafe.

I’ve been following and hoping for a positive outcome as a rescue but futile. Seems it imploded days ago. So sad, I hope they didn’t know much about it.

The other company director said all those taking the journey knew the risks. No doubt the passengers had to sign an indemnity contract before departure.

Pjran Yes, they had to sign a contract and knew the risks. Probably the same contract anyone has to sign to go on these new space tours.

A military submarine's max safe depth is around 300m, with some believed to go down around 450m. So yes, you must know that going down 4,000m will be ultra-risk.

This is gutting and I’m sure I heard it read somewhere that the young lad that was on board didn’t want to even go

No way would I have ever gone on such a high risk trip but if they fitted the sub with high quality 3D cameras and made a VR trip down to the titanic I wouldn't mind trying that with a VR helmet on. That young boy has lost perhaps 70 years of his life just so he could see a rusting hulk at the bottom of the ocean. I can probably think of 1000 things that I would prefer to spend about $500k on. It wouldn't be pleasurable for me as I would be constantly worrying about the submarine imploding.

Just going for a walk on a beautiful sunny day would be more pleasurable for me.

It's really sad especially for the young lad who had his whole life ahead of him and didn't want to go only went to please his dad. Really feel for the family's. At least now have an idea what happened and died really quickly with out knowing what was happening to them which is a comfort.

Gutted but unfortunately I think the ending was never going to be good, very sad.

If this enterprise was doomed to have a tragic ending then I am glad that they went so quickly and without much knowledge of what was about to happen. To think of them trapped for days knowing rescue was unlikely and running out of air would have been an appalling tragedy, especially for the 19 year old.
