Crochet Are You a Fan ?

Other

After trying on and off over the last 40ish years I have finally taught myself (with the help of youtube) how to crochet !!! I am so chuffed with myself I can’t explain !!

Crochet seems to be a big trend at the moment…. Are you a fan ?

It looks very complicated to me and can't be bothered to even try to learn at my age. I think most crocheted items look old fashioned and out of place but that is a personal opinion. However, I knit a lot in winter. What comes around goes around as they say.

I have tried knitting but that looks over complicated to me, I can knit a straight forward scarf using one stitch but that’s it.

I’d love to be able to both knit and crochet but find crochet a lot easier.

reannsgran I guess it would be second nature if I had learned when younger.

During Winter in front of tv I often knit scarves in simple garter stitch and then add fringing each end. They go down well as small extra Christmas gifts and places like Aldi/Lidl/Home Bargains etc sell reasonably priced wool. I used to knit quite complicated patterns when younger but now my concentration is bad and I keep forgetting where I am at!

Lynibis my nearest and dearest will be getting various crochet items in their stockings this year. I find it very relaxing even though I’m still very much learning. Happy knitting 😁

Well done it's great to be able to learn a new skill, personally I have only really attempted to learn once and gave up pretty quickly it's alot harder than people make out but can be pretty cool once you can do it.

Tried but can't get the hang of it. Looks pretty though. Love what you can make. Think people are realising that homemade is better

Jerseydrew home made is definitely better even though it’s a little wonky sometimes !

reannsgran I just can't grasp how to do it. I've tried but what should be easy I find impossible

Jerseydrew I honestly tried to crochet on and off for years and just ended up with a big ole knot. One weekend I thought right this is it… and I made my first ‘grannie square’ that was more like a triangle. My son has it hanging from his windscreen mirror in his car 🤣

I tried it when i was at school about 15 years ago but never got the hand of it. I’m not much of a sitter so i think i would find it difficult but i think it is cool how people can just do it on autopilot whilst they watch tv

I'm a fan of watching it being done and some of the designs. A relative of mine tried to show me how to do this years ago and I had no patience for doing it myself.

I learned to knit when younger but didn’t stick at it as found making good mistakes quite complicated. My niece loves to crochet and she has made some really lovely clothes and blankets. They are very pretty and not ‘old fashioned’ very modern. I’d love to have a go but I have other things going on so don’t have the patience to stick and learn.

I was taught to knit very young, but many aunts grandmas etc could never reach me the knack of crochet. I was taught by a very very patient lady on holiday a few years ago, just a different technique to her teaching and now I am away. I love it, it is so much more forgiving than knitting

kitty88uk I have made some blankets and a couple of cardigans also made my grandchildren some plushy chickens and frogs. Plus a few bucket hats and scrunchies.

I don’t sleep very well so it’s a quiet hobby to do whilst my adult children and grandkids sleep.

I’ll try and share some photos
