Should Cyclists Need a License?

Ask a Question

🚲 Should Cyclists need a license?

With lots of incidents of them not obeying the rules of the road and skipping red lights, should we bring in licenses?

No. Maybe for those using electric bikes that weave between the traffic.

I don’t think so, would seem like a massive overreaction imo since most cyclists do obey the rules and most likely the one’s breaking them wouldnt get a license anyway

No but I believe electric bikes should and they should be on the road only the amount of times I've nearly been knocked over because of some idiot on the pavement

Yes! I see so many cyclists who think that red lights are only for motorists so I believe that they should have a licence so that they can be penalised just like motorists.

Most definitely. Some of the stunts I've seen cyclists pull is unreal. Yesterday there was one in the middle of a narrow road messing about with water bottles and got shirty when a massive trucj came down the road. The stretch of road barely fits to vehicles on it and he kicked off because the truck turned in and he had to move out the way🤦‍♀️

100% yes, but I believe any kind of vehicle that is using the road should have some kind of license even mobility scooters that use the road.

It's not going to happen. It would put a huge amount of people off cycling and create even more global warming. How are the police going to police it as well when they are stretched thin.

Just needs some decent rules like not overtaking pedestrians on shared paths at any faster than 8mph for example. Also need firmer rules on pedestrians too. Often they walk together side by side blocking cycle paths or shared paths. They should ban phone zombies on shared paths too, they just wander all over the place completely absorbed in their phones. I watch a lot of cycling videos and you see people basically acting like Lemmings just wandering off pavements right into the road without looking. Bicycles and EVs don't make much noise which is part of the problem. When a bike collides with a person it isn't always the cyclist at fault.

Maybe pedestrians need to get a walking license after completing a series of tests. Sounds stupid but many pedestrians are utterly clueless. However I reckon 80% of cyclists, pedestrians and motorists are considerate of others its that other 20% that is the problem.

I don't think they they need to have a licence, but they should have some kind of insurance, in my opinion.

Cyclists that work for Deliveroo, Uber Eats and other similar delivery companies should be required to have a licence. It's normal for them to flout the rules of the road. Alternately, place CCTV cameras near zebra crossings and traffic lights and fine the companies every time one of their riders fails to stop.

ACR All the police have to do is park near to takeaways to see gig economy riders come and go and monitor which are cycling legally. They all have to go the takeaways to collect orders. It's a matter of priorities though.

Can’t enforce it. You can’t identify riders on bikes to issue fines for not having a licence

Yes 💯. I feel like some cyclists ride so dangerously, they put their own lives and others in danger.
