Defiant Landlords Banned under 14 Kids from Village Pub despite Backlash

In the News

Two landlords who banned children from their village pub have said they couldn’t care less about the backlash on social media

They are saying they want more adult space where people don't need to watch their language etc

Some people agree with their decision but others, mainly families are not happy

I think this is a risky strategy and could affect their business a lot

What do you think about it ?

Suppose it depends what type of pub they have, a traditional drinking establishment is not really a place for kids anyway. There are many pubs around that I would not take kids whether they are allowed or not.

My daughter is the landlady of a local pub who allows children in but it is not really child friendly. I have donated colouring books and pens to the pub but apart from having a soft drink and something to eat the children have nothing to do so get bored. I totally support The Wheel inn pub in Westwell near Ashford. Some pubs are just not suitable venues for children.

We used to go to a pub once a week for food. The amount of screeching kids there was unbelievable, so we stopped going.

Pubs are no place for children and their parents should take them to Toby or somewhere and annoy people there.

TheChimp no the parents need to not let them run round screeching but teach them there's a time and a place for it.

I'm not talking about those that have additional needs here.

Actually I like this. I work with kids and it's nice to not have to think about behaving in a certain way. I think some pubs need to child free. Not everyone wants to around kids all the time. I don't want my kids in a pub with people that drunk and like wise if I'm out without my kids I don't want to be surrounded by kids running around. Mine aren't the sort that ran round screaming mainly because they taught not to as I appreciate not everyone will think my kids aren't adorable etc. Nor do I want mine running into staff taking food or drinks and said staff dropping drinks and food all over my kids or floor

Nowadays with global warming and a huge over-population of the world we have to stop thinking so positively about kids and think about making it slightly more awkward to have kids etc. So many countries now like Korea, Japan have instinctively reduced their birth rate realising the huge damage being done to the planet as have many European countries. It is getting pretty serious now about the how the environment is changing and its happening at a faster rate than many scientists first thought. If people complain that they can't take their kids to places and its a pain that is probably a good thing. I don't think its unfair at all to have some pubs that ban children.

I don't think pubs should have children in them anyway even if it's just for a meal I don't think it's the right environment

It's not a problem i need to worry about now , i don't mind either way, but i agree i dislike the screaming kids scenario , especially if you are trying to eat

telmel Also some parents can be absolutely vile scum to be honest, they seem to think they are entitled to ruin the leisure time of other people with rowdy out of control kids and other people should just put up with it. I suspect the pub has done this because of such situations which is a pain for both staff and customers. I know I keep quoting this is in such threads but just before I left Hungry Horse after eating a meal a family moved into a nearby table and were playing cartoons on full volume on their phone to amuse their kids, no consideration for others at all. As I left I passed many annoyed faces of people who were annoyed about the noise. Just so unfair and inconsiderate but some parents are just too stupid or horrible to even consider others. These are probably the type of low brow scum that cause pubs like this to change their policies.

It’s their business at the end of the day so they can run it how they like, just as the customers can take their money elsewhere if they don’t agree.

If it is the only pub in the village i can see why people would be annoyed though.
