Dirty John - Netflix Show

Oh wonderful, do you think you will read the rest? Yes I find it much easier to read/watch historic gore/violence because they really knew no better despite being very religious. I cannot bear modern violence as I feel we should have evolved to a higher plane by now and I can't bear that it happens daily all around me.

As for Dirty John, there is no violence (only implied or expected) until the last episode, it is mostly mind games. Eric Bana plays the lead and he is very charismatic and charming. It goes back to his childhood and the way he was brought up, again not violent but with a warped sense of right/wrong. As you know I don't often watch contemporary, modern stuff but was gripped. Having said that i had nothing more urgent to do today lol.

Lynibis I appreciate you giving me an idea of what I can expect - will now probably give it a go. Yes, I will definitely seek out some more Gilman to read - I was reading Outlander alongside it but finished the David Gilman first. I am on the point of no return with Outlander and much further ahead of the series now. I know how I want it to end and hope they are collecting their gemstones........

angemski ha ha, my lips are sealed! I can't do two different series of books at once. Am presently reading Elizabeth Chadwick, A Time for Singing. She is a prolific writer of historical fiction. This one set at end of 12th century, Richard I about to become king.

Lynibis Will make a note of that one too. I think my interest started with nautical history and have read, without exaggeration, hundreds of books - mostly covering the 18th and 19th century and was fascinated by the cause and effect of the Napoleonic Wars. (enter Major Richard Sharpe) I think I needed a break from Diana Gabaldon as I was becoming lost with all the changes of plot compared to the series so your recommendation came at the right time. I am now off to return to Jocasta's wedding. lol.

angemski I started with ancient history, Egyptian and Roman, then Tudor then moved on to English medieval, back a bit to Viking but have never felt the urge to dabble in anything after Elizabeth I although like everyone have picked up a lot from books and dramas. Did you watch War and Peace with James Norton from Grantchester?

Got my history talk at Age Concern on Tuesday and am giving them a fleeting glimpse of the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine.

I read the Outlander books after seeing series 1 and love both.......But lots of the later characters are nothing like I had envisioned. I love the obvious....Jamie, but must admit to really liking Murtagh. Roger and Bree are nothing like the image in my head, Bree is meant to be busty and Amazonian. Roger seems a bit wimpy, but that might just be me.I

Lynibis Yes I thoroughly enjoyed War & Peace - a beautiful production. Ooooh! I am totally impressed that your are giving a talk - I truly couldn't do that - good for you. I once went AWOL at a prize giving because I couldn't face an audience and give a two minute thank you speech. lol.

I agree about the characters. Jamie and Clare were perfect but I was also a little disappointed with the Bree/Roger characters but for the opposite reasons - I saw the series first and the book just didn't fit. Roger was too masculine and tall in the book . (I had accepted him being pretty but a little wimpy) Murtagh has just disappeared and I thought he would end up with Jocasta.....no.....no.... don't comment. Will catch up, I am sure, on another thread.

angemski I have probably already mentioned my little reading corner with recliner chair, Outlander cushion (gift from Granddaughter) and tartan throw. All visitors want to have a little sit in it!

Talk is in an hour or so. I do have to refer to notes a lot in order to keep it flowing and in chronological order but not fazed by talking to folk as I used to perform wedding ceremonies. I certainly understand those who can't though, I am very nervous until I get going then it just kinda takes over.

The talk today is about Eleanor of Aquitaine and having mentioned Elizabeth Chadwick above you may be interested in her trilogy about Eleanor and Henry II : The Autumn Throne, The Summer Queen, The Winter Crown. Personally though I prefer Sharon Penman's trilogy on the same subject: When Christ and His Saints Slept, Time and Chance, The Devil's Brood. Happy Reading lol.

Lynibis - Metrovski means 'You'. I've heard it's in the same vein as Dirty John. I'm going to give them a go this weekend.

Hi angemski, just back from dinner at son's house hence late reply. It went very well thankyou, about 45 people present and they were very kind and appreciative. A lady asked me to do another at her branch of age concern. Better get reading up on Richard I as I fancy talking about his crusade, being ransomed and finally getting home and it will be a good follow on from his parents. Hope all is well with you.

Lynibis Really pleased to hear that it went well - and you got a return call! Well done. Richard was one of the more interesting characters with many facts untold in 'school history'. (I have no doubt that you already have a trove of these) You will have an absolute ball with the next talk. This could be the start of something very interesting. Enjoy it. That will probably be my next Netflix watch but while I am binge watching once upon a time all my normal tv programmes are being recorded and piling up!

Me neither, angemski. I have 2 or 3 episodes but may not even bother to watch unless I get desperate!

I keep starting new series and must stop myself. Trouble is, I watch one series with a work colleague in between our jobs....she lives too far to bother going home but I am close enough to do so and she comes to mine for a cuppa and a good watch. Another friend comes every Sunday so we are mid series, and both sons urged me to watch Mr Mercedes. I have also started on Messiah but wasn't too keen so have watched and finished Sanctuary this last week. And of course I cannot help but watch Vikings as a new episode comes on each week even though I swore I would save them all and have a weekend binge!

I believe Outlander is back soon and also The Last Kingdom, both of which I cannot wait for

Absolutely fine thanks angemski . Just been a bit bored with it all lately and I realised I was getting too obsessed with the site. I was chatting for the sake of it and seemed too busy building points and letting lots of other things go.

Nice to have my face back to normal and have once again taken up aromatherapy. My boss says I am a witch as the potion I made for him helped with his psoriasis!
