Does Anyone Bring Their Dog to Work with Them?

Ask a Question

So the ‘Bring your dog to work’ day has passed. Did anyone do this? I find that some work places allow it, but not all offices are as welcoming...

I wish! i would love a job where i could spend all day with my dogs and they’d come home as tired as i do! But i think most places don‘t allow dogs due to allergies / health & safety / loss of concentration... i know i would spend all day cuddling peoples dogs and not working 😂

I would love to take my dog to work but think it might distract the pupils too much! Plus she would be far too excited and want to run around the school going into every classroom.

Lol I can imagine how much the pupils would love it - definitely a distraction, but it would be cool if it could happen at least one day a year

hspexy we do have therapy dogs that come into the school once a month. I remember they didn't have a water bowl for them, so they asked if they could borrow the one I keep in my car for my dog.

I wish ! My 3 nutty beagles would’ve driven everyone mad !! Sadly not everyone is a dog lover 😕

Yes that’s very true. Such a shame as dogs are lovely creatures. If there are people who are not dog lovers, then it’s their loss!

hspexy I am not a dog lover, but I love some dogs....i.e. my sons' dogs. I will happily look after them if they go away for the weekend and enjoy doing so but I do not wish to own one and have the responsibilities that come with it. It doesn't make me a bad person though. I am nervous around big dogs but happy with cute little ones.

Both my sons were bitten by dogs when small, the youngest nearly having his top lip ripped but luckily just a hole that bled copiously but scared him half to death. This was whilst visiting the elderly and her dog flew off the couch and straight at my son without any provocation whatsoever.

I also gag when poo picking up! I walked home yesterday and passed 3 plastic bags of poo just left by the roadside. Some owners seem to think they have fulfilled their duty by picking it up and bagging it but then just leaving it where the deed was done!

Lynibis lol there are people who can’t deal with baby poo too. Each to their own I guess. Most of the people I know who don’t like dogs have had bad experiences, but I usually say that you normally find there’s a bad owner (or bad experiences caused by men) behind a bad dog.

Lynibis I don’t think whether you love dogs or not makes you a good or bad person. To be honest I love most dogs but there are a few I don’t like much. Picking up poo Is all part and parcel of being a conscientious dog owner.... it’s not a job any dog lover enjoys but if you own a dog then you have to be responsible for ALL aspects of dog owner ship 😊

hspexy agree! I managed my own babies but cannot be in the same room if a nappy change is going on lol! The smell makes me gag.

You may have seen my posts about cats pooing in my garden. My neighbour has 11 cats and yesterday I had to pick up 3 lots of soft ones stuck in my grass. I nearly heaved!

Lynibis oh dear, cats are very territorial so if they start marking your garden they never stop

hspexy well I have to admit they have won the battle but not the war. My sons are going to help me pave over and redesign so even if they keep on it will be easier to clean!

I think some dog lovers often forget that not everyone is comfortable around dogs. I would want the day off if I worked in an office where this happened! What about little accidents? Fights amongst the dogs? Boredom just sitting around? Don't quite understand the thinking behind it.

Yes that could all happen. I know some people who would be mortified by the very idea. But a lot of dog owners see their dogs as a loved one, so it’s definitely a welcoming event to be able to have them along side them at work (and I am just one of those crazy people that just adore them, but my lifestyle doesn’t suit having one - but I will get one one day)

I am a dog owner and for the reasons you have stated is why i wouldnt take my dogs to work. Just because i love my dogs and think they are funny cute and quirky i know there are alot of people who would probably find there jumping around and constant need for attention very annoying. I wouldnt push my dogs or my views about my dogs on any one. If you come to my house im afraid you would have to put up with them as its their home too but i wouldnt impose them on anyone else either in the workplace or outside of our home.

nipperjwb yes their home is their home. I am always fearful when I take kids to and from their foster homes and a big dog bounds out and jumps up at me, yesterday two came at me. I do think owners need to understand that some people are scared. However, I would not go into a house and expect their pets to accommodate me by being shut away. For this very reason I have not visited my best friend for about 8 years as she has two sharpeis, Japanese hunting dogs. She comes to me every Sunday for a meal and film and we go out and about but she understands my fear. Vindicated I might add as she is currently being sued by a 'friend' who was bitten by one of them!

Lynibis oh blimey !! My dogs are definately my dogs ! My sister doesn’t very often visit as my dogs just want to play and failing that they just want stroking constantly ! I totally understand that some people do like dogs as I don’t like cats at all I find them creepy and don’t visit a friend who has 3.
